Interesting quote by Ancelotti looking ahead to the Brighton game:

Now we have all week to prepare for the next game. Since I came in we played only games no training, so that will be important to improve quality and have more confidence”.

I was thinking earlier how much time hes had with them on the training field and that answers my question

I have a feeling he's been picking the sides on reputation and exsperince

I doubt he will make that mistake again after today

Mentality is trotted out whenever we lose, Anfield or not. Standard boring football cliché. I’m sure it matters at some point but not to the extent people make out. We seemed to develop a good mentality in the Pickford derby all of a sudden, because we played well and the players suited the system.

Agreed we shouldn’t be trying to play football from the back with that central midfield. It doesn’t suit the players. It worked against teams that don’t press high like Burnley or don’t press well like Newcastle. I think these players need more direct football, certainly with current injuries.
I’ve seen Everton teams far better then the Liverpool team lose over and over to them in the past, they even beat us with 10 men one time. I’ve seen McAllister got score a 40 odd yard free kick in the 97 minute, seen us blow a 1-0 lead at Wembley. Remember the 3-3 last minute equaliser from them or the 3-2 Mane last minute winner

Classic Carlo.

'Just worry about performing'.

He's been known to manage primarily on outputs, not inputs.

We lost that final because our manager was a gibbering idiot who had us shut up shop at 1-0 after scoring the quickest goal in the history of an FA Cup final and try to hang on. On that occasion it was the manager's losers mentality that cost us rather then the players. It can be either or both. On that occasion it was the manager's fault. We actually had a pretty good team with a decent attitude at that time that was held back by its own managers negatively and losers mentality. The attitude of Moyes and his knife to a gun fight outlook along with Bill Kenwright endlessly taking down expectations at plucky old Everton took their toll on the club and led us to where we're today.
I was sat in Goodison when we where 0-0 with Spurs 10 mins to go takes off Saga( I think) puts Hibbert on and 2 minutes later we lose and that was EVERYGAME, defund like mad for the last 20 mins

On the subject of mentality if 2 teams are "up for it" the better team will always win I can only think of one occasion when they seemed not quite at the races and that was the Johnson hat tick game. For decades they've had the quality of Rush, Owen, Fowler, Torres, Suarez and now Salah spearheading players significantly more adept than our mob the cold fact is if they match us for effort they win.

More galling is this new development of sending out the reserves to sweep us aside

All true but I don’t see the point. I can rake up odd times that poor EFC teams have beaten better LFC teams.
