2019/20 Carlo Ancelotti

We were desperate for wins. We still are, in truth. It was entirely substance over style at that point.

The wins against Burnley and Newcastle weren't great performances, they weren't even the pragmatic, controlled performances you'd associate with Italian Football.

My point is, Arteta was able to implement a noticeable style change very quickly. Other managers in the past have been able to implement swift changes to playing style. The results take their time, but there has, at least been a positive impact on work ethic and tempo - which is essentially all the 'new manager bounce' is.

I've seen a difference in how we play, I can see that Carlo has made changes, but I can't see that the players have bought into him unconditionally, I can't see that there has been that positive impact on work ethic and tempo - and that's what we lost on today.

Not quality or tactics. Klopp didn't 'out-think' him. We lost to a fantastic piece of quality but we were chasing shadows throughout the 2nd half, in truth. Their kids, out-fought our 1st team. That is the surprise for me.

My biggest worry is his career is littered with managing global stars and not squads like ours. From what I´ve seen, he´s a respected individual who is brilliant at managing those big egos. Does he have it in him to take a club like this and transform it from top to bottom? None of us know. Anyone who thinks otherwise is getting carried away with themselves.

You don't think Arsenal played differently under Emery vs under Arteta?

If you care to re-watch their matches against Bournemouth and Chelsea, even though they lost. They played well and they played differently. Their shape, their tempo was completely different. And the Arsenal fans were commenting on it, well before they beat United the other day.

new manager bounce. He’s had abar 1 day on the training ground, he’s done nothing

Are you pretending that you watched the full Chelsea and Bournemouth games?

But then we completely bottled the final? So did we have a strong mentality that season or not? Because it doesn’t mean me that mentality is a character trait that comes and goes with the weather.
I’ve been having this exact argument for years. This idea that your mentality is just interchangeable on a game by game basis depending on the result is bonkers. We lose away at good teams because we’re not very good. Not one player on our team played any different to usual today, we lost because we’re rubbish. Sometimes the team we play is more rubbish than us and we win, but by and large we are still rubbish.

Perfect scenario for Carlo today. Too early in his reign to get the knives out and really its ended the season so all pressure is now off until August. This will give him another twelve months at least until the natives get restless (thats 11million pounds for those keeping track) and then only if things start badly again next campaign. He is a big name but if you look at his last two jobs he's delegating most of the coaching now to others and Munich players had to come up with their own training sessions as they didn't feel they were being challenged. If Duncan was on the sideline that would've never have happened today..............said this before he signed and hope I'm wrong but think he's here for the incredible pay day and wont lose a wink tonight like most of us will after today Hope I'm wrong!

We have to keep some faith in him. Today has completely knocked the [Poor language removed] out of me today. Are our players up to it. I’m not sure I think Carlos needs time at least 2 midfield and a back up centre half. I think we have no choice but to get behind the team even though they don’t deserve it.

Worryingly spot on for me

Of course your mentality changes from game to game, that's the biggest thing managers are responsible for.

Otherwise, are you arguing that their team, on paper, today was better than ours?

If not, then it can only really be about mentality, resilience, motivation and work ethic.

Honestly dont think hes equipped to turn us around in our current state

Hes a Hollywood manager used to working with elite footballers

Spot on, And Ferguson certainly would not have allowed that to happen today, not a chance on earth.
