Then theres the players that in an ideal world we would replace, that list is quite big so I wont bother.

All this is true. I just don’t get why we got Ancelotti in if he was told, we need to sell before we can have any kind of big outlay. I know he’s on stupendous wages but that surely can’t be a club he’d be interested in joining. Did they think the squad was better than it was?

I like to think he was told that he will get a wedge and we just haven't seen it yet or are orchestrating manoeuvres in the dark.

I actually think we played better footy under Dunc. Thats not me questioning Carlos in anyway at all. I just know we need 3/4 players of Allans calibre to break into the top 6.

Ancelotti is no idiot lad, he will have known the situation. If he genuinely believes in building a team here he’ll understand we have things we need to remove before we can focus on what to add.

Do you honestly think Ancelotti didn’t have an idea on that was facing him? That there may be FFP issues? That he wasn’t aware of the quality of the squad when he arrived?

It’s crazy to think he didn’t know what he was getting himself in for. He’s been there and done everything.

Just like it’s crazy to think he would throw his toys out of the pram for missing out on targets. Do you not think he’s probably bright enough and experienced enough to realise it might be more difficult to sign players if you are the manager of Everton than if you manage real or Milan. He’s not leaving because we didn’t sign hojberg and Gabriel ffs.

I think you’ve misread that. I was asking a question of the board really, saying why would we pluck CA for 3 years and not have anything to back him with? We may well do, I just feel like the recruitment strategy now, mixed in with the last couple of years is all over the gaff.

I did misread! Really sorry!

(although I want to be clear the post wasn’t directed at you and more a general point on fans freaking out that we haven’t signed anyone yet and that we have to sell to buy)

I get your point. On the flip side I think about what he did for clubs like PSG. He got them thinking like a big club. It might have been his book or an article but I was reading about his time there.

He said when he got there they were still *thinking* like a small club. The way things worked. The infrastructure. The process. Despite being in the champions league and things they needed to raise their standards because they weren’t operating the way they should be.

Thats what got me most excited about ancelotti. The experience that he can bring in from top to bottom. He signed ibrahimovic at the time so that he had that exact idea in the changing room. I think he’s still looking for that kinda player and it wouldn’t surprise me if we signed someone like that at some point in the window.

He never quit Napoli when the owner had them holed up in training for a week, why would he leave us because we have missed out on targets?

He isn’t a prima donna, he knew exactly what he was getting with us

That’s definitely the best I think of we can hope for from Carlos reign. Just due to longevity. I just feel that for him to be a success, or us as a club in general, we need some foundations in place elsewhere. PSG probably didn’t have dumb and dumber as their owners/chairman (I mean that in a footballing sense, I get they’re both successful elsewhere) and a DOF who, no matter what anyone thinks of him, seems to be either devalued on some decisions, or has his hands strung.
There’s just so much confusion around everything with no clear direction. I really hope things change under Carlo but so far, the transfer sagas seem similar (although there is some time, but little time for this to change) and the team is just as bad, if not worse.
I’m not doubting him as a manager. He’s had huge success. But he’s worked at clubs that are consistently successful and I hope that he has the stomach to deal with our lot.

My original point deals with the last bit. He knows that he’s getting himself in for.

my guess is he wants one last challenge (well that and 200k pw)

I didn’t write it correctly ... meant he’d get millions to buy players and be able to attract players if he went to a decent club
