2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

A manager of his calibre shouldn't need to see him there to know he's not good enough.

That's what confuses me. I'm seeing a player who'd struggle to impress in League One get 30 games a season under one of the best managers of all time.

It's confusing.
It's more than confusing, it's a joke.

What choices do we have right now?

Well, I know Josh King is probably bad given Carlo won't play him, but I'd have give him a run of games rather than go with Iwobi and know for absolute sure he's going to stink the place out.

Or sod it, throw Broadhead in and see what he can do - especially now the season is essentially dead.

I just don't understand the logic in giving Iwobi game time, especially after his ridiculous moody comments on Instagram.

In all honesty...for 10-15mins I thought we looked really good. And Iwobi looked okay as that number 10.

I think he's the type of manager that wants to get the best out of his players and at least gives them a chance with what they need.

Problem is...they're just not good enough. Add injuries and an ever changing formation to accommodate, it adds up.

He's the only reason I have any hope that we will progress. If we had a moderate manager I would be worried. I think Richarlison and DCL would leave, and we'd be in an even worse state.

We are very bad at creating stuff.

So, what's our structure? What's the "system" as it were? WELL over a year in to his tenure and I don't think anyone can say what it is he is trying to do here.
Yeah it’s a fair point. I can put up with this dull football if we finish top 6 and can use it as a platform. If we fade and finish 8th or lower then the whole season will just have been a complete waste of time. No development of style, no blooding of young players etc. Right now it’s difficult to see us finishing top 6 I think, so I’m getting pretty fed up of these performances personally.

He is. He's great, by and large. We're miles better off that he's here.

But, let's not absolve him of blame for some of these dreadful performances either.

They've been really crap and you can't lose to West Ham, Newcastle, Fulham and Burnley at home in the manner that we have in the last two months or so and not question him.

I agree but people are setting it up to moan about Carlo, no so much next week but in the following weeks if we dont get Europe
Not Carlo’s fault. It’s just some of these players aren’t good enough as back-up. Even he plays in his favoured position.

And fans are back at Goodison this will never happen against these lesser teams.

A game like tonight, when we got the goal back, that’s where the crowd would have come in handy. Likewise Fulham, even though it was ruled out, King’s goal would have lifted the crowd to push us on but it stands to reason, as with other clubs, you shouldn’t just need a crowd to push on in games you’re behind in, you shouldn’t be in that position in the first place

By the same token, we definitely don’t win at Leeds if they have the crowd in there.

People need to decide if they want results or attacking football because with these players you can't have both.

We are effective when we park the bus. We are a shambles when we tweak the system to be aggressive. Carlo needs to stop pandering to those demanding free flowing football and stick to his instincts which are that these players are unreliable and things need to be very simple for them.

It's not even the 'dullness' I'm arsed about.

Structure is a word that becomes synonymous with defending but actually, it's just as important as in attack.

We don't attack with any structure. We don't build moves, we don't sustain pressure. We operate totally on moments, yet we're not a counter-attacking team either.

It isn't too much of an ask for us to have an attacking and defensive structure, and that both of those things can work in balance. If you have that, with the quality of attackers we have, we'd have a way of creating chances and our strikers would put them away. Yes, the odd day it wouldn't work, but, we'd at least know we had that ability to create chances which play to our strikers' strengths.

Instead we get fans on Twitter saying we need to sell DCL because he only scores from inside the box.

I'm not sure what else he could have done tonight. They bossed the game until they went 2-0 up and then hit the post. That wasn't the team selection, that was the players.
