But the game should have been 4 or 5 nil by the time the equalised. James asked to come off so unavoidable, only one I questioned was Coleman for Godfrey who had a shocker at RB when he came on, but I don't know if Coleman had a knock or was tactical. We dominated for 80 mins.
Kind of agree we should have taken our chances but I also think them scoring was coming for over twenty minutes and he made the wrong subs. He should have brought King on for me push them back. Or even Godfrey to CB and Holgate to rb and Coleman in front of him to stem the flow down that side. The subs he made encouraged them as did sitting back but I suspect the players are as much to blame for that.

The way we defended the last 10 mins was school yard stuff. There's only so much Carlo can do; he sends people on to do the basics and our defence did not do them last night. Keane, Godfrey & Mina for their goal were embarrassing.

No I agree with that, but we weren't 4 or 5 up, so it's irrelevant isn't it? I don't mean that in a sarky way, I mean just literally, it's irrelevant. We should have had the game sewn up but we didn't, so we had to see it out, and I just didn't think the subs or tactics were right to allow us to do that. I just don't like it, i've been saying it since the Brighton game last season, and we still do it almost every time we go ahead. Even when we get away with it it's usually by the skin of our teeth, I just don't understand why he keeps doing it. Obviously I can only comment on what I know, if Coleman was injured then obviously he had to come off (although i'd still say going to a back 4 with Holgate at right back would have been the far more logical solution) but as there's been no suggestion that's the case I can't really factor it in. I'm also a little bit uncomfortable with the idea of players just asking to come off when they aren't actually injured. Particularly if the same doesn't apply to all players.

I agree but it's a pattern as is not being able to control games we have seen it all season it's on both the players and manager. I tend to err on the players because it's still not his squad and he is has a long injury list. But he also has to work on a framework where we can dominate team's at home and put them to bed. Scoring and hanging onto a goal isn't sustainable.

Then don't you think "let's sit back on a 1-0 lead for the rest of the match" is a problem? How many times have we gotten the lead and shrunk back into ourselves allowing wave after wave of pressure? Sometimes, like Leicester, it works. Often, it doesn't. It requires players to be absolutely tuned in and aware. One slip up and that's that. Just like we could have won yesterday we also could have lost with how easy Palace found it to just walk through our defense in the last 20. THAT is on Carlo. It's happened entirely too many times for that to be "oh, the players can't handle the pressure". That HAS to be his instructions to sit further back.

Considering we had at least 6 great chances in the game how can you say we went with the "sit back on a 1-0 lead" approach? They just got back into it last 10 mins and unfortunately we conceded. For the first 80 mins of the game we completely dominated and they were crap. We scored in the 56th minute and it was only around the 80th min they decided to play some football.

He made the decisions after we missed the chances. Yes we should have scored them, but we didn't and that was the situation he had to deal with.

My theory is he doesn't trust them to play open football like we did in the first ten or eleven games, so plays more defensively when we go ahead but it often backfires and isn't sustainable. So in this case it's a combination of manager, substitutions, personnel and tactics.

Probably speaks to why Carlo is more of a coach who is used to working with top players and gives them a lot of autonomy, if he hasn't got them he will work on a hard to beat system it seems....its worked for us away from home this season but at home you need more. I give him credit for adapting at times to injuries but at home we have to control games more and push on even when we are one up or we will continue to frustrate. We have to hope we can bring in more quality this summer without Europe that could be hard as could holding onto the likes of Richy.

Oh, I'm sorry, so we went completely at them in the 70th minute on? Must have missed THAT part. Far as I can remember we had one more attempt after our goal and that was that.

We sit back when we lead, it's undeniable. We've done it just about every match that we get the lead in. If we win, we win by 1 goal. If we lose we lose by 2-3. It's why our GD is absolutely terrible.

Apology accepted.

We still went for it after the goal and had some chances: https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1...emier-League-2020-2021-Everton-Crystal-Palace

Both Richarlison and DCL had good chances after we scored. Both were saved but DCLs was a very easy chance.

We should have been 3 goals ahead in the game and that was by taking only half of our clear chances.
