CARLO MOTD INTERVIEW

‘A good performance, not a top performance, but a solid performance’. Enough to beat Arsenal away though. Apologies to those who hate competent pragmatic management and would rather we got punted 5-0 when we didn’t play well, but at least they can warm themselves with an exciting 3-2 win over West Brom at home to keep us away from the relegation zone.

Chatting wham here tbh

Edit: Carlo is. Sorry if that sounded personal.

Wins are the only real currency that counts.

Hmm.

We said that earlier in the season though. Ultimately, it's not true because you need to have a way of winning games that is more sustainable than hoping for one moment or in today's case, a fluke OG. Or it'll come back to bite you as we've seen.

Yes, better players are a part of it, but need better decisions (Gomes, Delph??) too.

Doesn't need to be so black and white either way.

3 points after 90 minutes is all that matters.
You do not get points for lookin good .
When it's all added up it's the points that count .
Nothing else is counted

It’s black and white when we lose though. Injuries don’t matter, bad luck doesn’t matter, individual errors don’t matter. It’s just not good enough from Carlo. When we win though there’s always a load of caveats that people rush to rather than admitting Carlo did well.

Genuinely not knocking him but it’s not like it was a tactical master plan. It was an awful game which could have gone either way and the ‘fair’ result was probably a 0-0 draw, but we got very lucky with an absolutely appalling piece of goalkeeping.

We have only played well and not won a handful of times though. Burnley away (Carlo got it wrong there, an injury forcing a sub changed the game), Palace home and possibly the Spurs home game are the only ones I can really think of.

This isn't how I operate
I agree the football was utter dire we have played much better and drew or lost ......but that tonight was like watching paint dry only a joke of an OG raised a smile plus Pickford save at the end got us 3 much needed points or is it papering over large cracks ?
Our midfield again did not perform.....,too much passing sideways plus backwards plus Delph just a joke of a substitute...... Worrying imo ......

At the season the point total is what counts. Not how well you played in certain games or how much possession you had .
We are on course for a big improvement in our points . Huge progress
The league position is what matters. If we make Europe then how we’ve played becomes irrelevant and we can say with some certainty that the season has been an improvement. If we finish 8th or lower then it’s a bit different. More points Is good but it’s not actually that relevant. I’d rather finish 8th with 52 points looking like a side that just needs a little fine tuning than 8th with 58 points looking like a side that doesn’t know what it’s aiming for. The win today keeps us right in that European hunt though, and even the top 4 might be possible if we improve a bit.
