Ancelotti obviously needs time, and it is too early to conclude. That said, I'm weak for Ralph Hassenhuttl. We complain about the players we have, but think how much rubbish he has in the squad. He has a clearly defined system with some very clear principles. The team mostly plays entertaining football, and gets the points they need.

I simply think he has and had better players. The likes of sigurdsson and iwobi wouldnt get a look in at southampton.

Realistically it’s going to take two or three years for Carlo to turn us into title challengers. We have a desperately poor squad. It’s a miracle that we’re still in the top 6. We’re even light years behind Man Utd and they’re nothing special, albeit they’ve spent almost a billion Pounds on transfer fees since Sir Alex retired.

I do think, though, that we’d have performed better had Goodison been packed to the rafters. The fans are usually like a 12th man when we play the mancs. Let’s hope things get back to normal at some point this season.

Realistically we aren't going to be challenging for the title in 3 years. For that to happen we'd need a Leicester scenario or almost an entire new squad.

Walcott?????

Walcott has been stale here for 2 years. Southampton is his boyhood club and its natural that his first two games he's looked more interested.
Southampton have some good players. He hasnt turned dross players into good ones. They were decent in the first place They just bought better than us. Players to fit roles. We panic buyed dross like iwobi and sigurdsson with no idea how they were going to fit into a role.

For all those bigging up flavour of the month Hassenhutl, this is the same bloke that just last season had Southampton losing 9-0 at home and in a relegation battle. Sometimes you have to give time to your manager to change things.
Hassenhutl did an unbelievable job at Leipzig taking a newly promoted team to runners-up finishing above Dortmund in the process. He has now taken Southampton forwards with a limited budget.

When was the last time Carlo took a club forwards.

The last Southampton manager that did well with a threadbare squad, was Koeman.

That ended well.

2014 when he won the CL with Real Madrid and left Zidane with a squad that won another three after it. Even Koeman took Southampton forward and he was a complete buffoon. Hassenhutl was close to getting fired last season. Let’s see if he finishes ahead of us this season before we proclaim him our new Messiah. People were saying the same about Marco Silva.

Shocking state of comments coming out now. Some people with amnesia at how crap this club has been since ronald koeman.
So much to fix and can only really do that over 3 or 4 windows to get what he wants in. He's had one.
So bizarre how Martinez always gets a pass on this. Koeman was awful but it was Martinez who started the massive downward spiral. Koeman’s only full season is the highest we’ve finished in the last 6 years.

Are you on a windup? If the guy who’s won Serie A, the Bundesliga, the Premier League, the FA Cup and THREE European Cups isn’t good enough then who on earth is?!

Give him time. At least a couple of seasons.

It took Klopp years to
get the RS into the top 4.
Not a criticism of Ancelotti but that klopp thing is one of them weird urban myths. They got top 4 in his first full season in charge.

His 4 3 3 does not work unless Richarlison does 70% of his pressing and attacking and DCL heads home.

The players in our squad are too slow and ineffective to press, and too scared to improvise. Our midfield for the past 8 years has been unable to create. I would pay 30M to bring Barkley back and atleast carry the ball 10-15 yards forward from midfield.

James' honeymoon is over as every team knows how much he relies on his left foot and every PL team would know how to mark his movements on the right flank where his lack of pace goes against him.

Olsen

Kenny Godfrey Keane Digne

Allan Docoure/Gomes

Richarlison James Bernard/Gordon

DCL

With the players at our disposal, only this formation works unless we ship out the turtles like Sigurdsson and frauds like Iwobi.

The decision to let Kean and Walcott go without replacing will haunt us.

The defensive duo of Mina and Keane does not work as both are slow. We need one of them to be fast and able to fill in the CM space once further up in order to press.
