2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

I mean we need more than one way of playing because - as we’ve seen - we’re a suspension or injury away from looking like a very easy team to defend against.

stop James and then just stop Digne getting a cross in to Dom.
Dont even need that - just two tall defenders on DCL (or one really good tall one like maguire) and there will be no headed goals

Ancelotti is still one of the newest managers in the league. People are comparing him at his first real low point with us with managers who have had 2 or 3 seasons with a team and have been through their low points. The fact is that if he was being punted 9-0 at home by Leicester people would be calling for his head and would be suggesting someone like Hassenhutl to take his place even though that result was exactly the embarrassment he had to go through to mould a team. The likes of Smith, Bielsa, Rodgers, Hassenhutl, Lampard, Solskjaer, they’ve all had a full season with their team under their belts (most of them more).

Arteta is the only real comparison in terms of time spent with their team, and he inherited a far far superior squad than Ancelotti did. He just got beat 3-0 at home by Villa and is below us in the league. A lot of those other managers are also already out of the league cup which Carlo isn’t but hey, why judge it in the round when we can concentrate on a few games.

You’d think Ancelotti’s real low point would’ve been getting dumped out of the FA Cup by Liverpool’s reserves nearly a year ago.

You make a valid point. I am starting to question Ancelotti slightly though. He didn't tear up any trees last season and he was unsuccessful in his previous two jobs before us as well. That is not to say I think he will be a failure but questions need to be asked.

You mention hassenhutl, but he is a young hungry ambitious manager. If things start to go really wrong for us which is absolutely possible, then does Carlo really have the motivation and ambition left in him to turn it around. It's a big concern that in his time at Everton so far he hasn't found a solution to win without Richarlison.

Surely he has to be working with Doucore more to ensure he is getting in goalscoring positions in the box to offer us another option.

And why are we conceding so many goals. The back four looks better than most in the league and has the protection of both Allan and doucore in the midfield. Surely this should make us more solid than last season when it was the likes of Davies and Gomes. He also needs to reconsider James playing on the right and maybe move him central as both Utd early goals came from the right side of the pitch.

I'll wait till January to pass judgement but the signs I'm seeing so far suggest we are inferior to the likes of Leicester, Wolves etc and could end up battling for mid table again and surely that has to be seen as another failure on all levels by the club.

That would be a valid point if Carlo was a manager who came in and built teams. He doesn't do that. He is a fantastic man manager whom players love. They perform in the short term and then the performances tail off.

Things didn't get better at Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern or Napoli as he adjusted to the League. They got worse, performances dipped and he got sacked.

I think two things have seen as lose our last few games.

We picked up red cards (Richarlison and Digne) at the same time as having an injury crisis - James, Coleman, Gomes, Allan etc. We just used three different RBs for the last three games. Coleman was a little rusty.

The tactics and team selection as a result of this became reactive in the wrong way.
1. James shouldn't have played the Southampton game. Effectively played the game a man down.
2. Godfrey came straight in at RB, maybe Jonjoe wasn't ready and we had no choice.
3. Sigurddsson keeps getting on the pitch because of his 'experience' but he offers nothing except being an extra body in midfield, anybody could do what he does. He was actually ok when he came off the bench the first few games, but he's terrible over 60-90 mins.

We are scarily easy to play against like. Teams just have to double up on the RB, press whatever inexperienced bloke is playing out of position, keep the ball the side of the left sided CM when playing through midfield and make runs between the CB’s because one of them will mess up eventually.

Im hoping it’s a combination of being left short on the transfer front and injuries which is pretty fixable.

Five points off 1st place with three winnable games and people are writing paragraphs about how bad we are?
In those three defeats, the performances were awful. I think that's the problem. How did we go so turd after the great start? If it is just down to richarlison being sent off then that is worrying.

Giving a no hoper like Keane a new contract must be the low point of Ancelotti's carrier. If he doesnt see that our Cb's and keeper are not good enough... What we are still missing is a good right back and a athletic and technical good ball distributor in midfield. Difficult to find but even Brands will know by now that Gomes is not the answer.
Something like bringing in ex players of the new manager has to stop. It didnt work with Martinez (all the Wigan clowns) it doesnt seem to work with Ancelotti.

Keane has been our best CB this season.

Media reaction after the Derby which resulted in a media darling player of Liverpool being injured, we have been light in fifty fifties because the players are looking over their shoulders, opponents are going over like they have been shot on any challenge we do put in. And many of our 'own' are only too keen to flagellate because of some unhinged hate of our 'own' players.
