How people still want Brands to be in a job I'll never know.

Out of his depth particularly with that Gabriel deal - refuses to pay £25 million for him in a pandemic then goes and spends £25 million on a lesser player in the same pandemic...
Gabriel may go on and become a decent player in the future but in the 10 games he has played so far the stats show him to be pretty average tbh, gets caught out of position a lot, not great in the tackle, and part of defence leaking goals. We hav'nt missed out on anything imo and i have no idea why you still keep banging on about it.

Regardless of how good he currently is the fact is Brands seems very erratic with his dealings and whilst we may miss out on the odd flop we may also lose out on a quality signing.

If someone is the 1st choice option then to not pursue it over money but then pursue the 3rd choice option for the same amount is baffling to me.

The first year he didn't improve them, the second year was far better but they still only managed 4th by 1 point above an Arsenal that was free-falling under Wenger. Knocked out of the cups by Southampton and Wolves and dumped out of the Europa that year too. Once Mane and then Salah came in and their long ball to the pacy winger tactics took shape they kicked on.

It wasn't an overnight thing and it took Klopp two very good transfer windows to build the team to play the way he wanted. @GwladysBlue making out like Klopp walked in and made them title contenders from day 1 and then using that as a stick to beat Ancelotti with is a bit of a joke imo.

That first year there were many kopites that were not convinced he was a step up on Brenda. A lot of things went their way during the early Klopp period, the declines of Arsenal, Utd, Tottenham, and Chelsea, the ridiculous fee they got for Coutinho, etc.

He's a good manager and has definitely improved them but it still took time and that is what we need to give to Ancelotti.

It's possibly unfair also to compare Ancelotti's time at Everton with Klopp's at Liverpool, even though both are clearly excellent managers. It's important to remember that both had very different tasks when they arrived. Yes, Klopp certainly took time to improve Liverpool to where they are now. When he arrived the team had just finished 6th and he achieved two cup finals in his first season and qualification to the Champions League in his 2nd. That is a big improvement in around 19 months.

For Ancelotti, he is now 12 months in to the role. Everton had finished 8th under Silva and then 12th last season. He has been supported this summer with some important, big money signings and hopefully the team will improve for the rest of the year. Doing well in the cups will be so important for the club and the fans because it has been too long for a club like Everton. After that, the team must add some ready, high quality new players in the next windows, then maybe we can achieve a similar trajectory.

You're missing the season he came in during October. They finished 8th, then 6th and then finally 4th by one point in his 3rd season.

It's a very fair point to say that the two squads were in completely different states when they both came in and the resources available to both to improve the team have been vastly different also so it isn't a fair comparison at all.

except Gabriel changed his mind and decided he wanted to go to arsenal, do you think brands should have kidnapped him?

They have not finished 6th under Klopp. I double checked again, you made me doubt myself there lol. He arrived in October 2015 and finished 8th, with two cup finals in that season. In his 2nd season, 2016/17, they finished 4th.

According to Wikipedia, in that 19 months, Klopp spent £67 million pounds on 6 players and sold 16 players for £76.5 million pounds. Since Ancelotti arrived, he has spent £61.7 million pounds on 5 players and sold 9 players for £6 million pounds.

This is why I said, it's a tough comparison because the two jobs were very different when they arrived.

That's awfully revisionist.

He hardly got off to a fantastic start and had them in 8th at the end of his first season. Then the yanks opened the cheque book and Salah and Mane kicked them on before they starter dropping 70 million each on multiple players to improve their first team.
He got them to the League Cup and Europa League finals in his first season. Their form tailed off as he focused on winning the Europa League.

Salah and Mane were bought for similar fees that we were spending on players.

They started dropping £70m fees on players because they received an enormous amount of money for Coutinho and have been regularly in the Champions League now and have been to the final twice in the past three seasons.

It’s ridiculous to say present day Ancelotti is anywhere near the level of Klopp. Not to mention his achievements at lesser clubs.

They literally finished 4th in his second season in charge. Where are you getting 6th from?

They went from 60 points in 2015/16 to 76 points in 2016/17.

Gabriel could have been finalised prior to Arsenals interest before Brands decided to try renogiate the terms/value of the deal - this is on record but people refuse to believe it.

They finished 8th and won nothing that season.

Yes, Salah and Mane were similar prices to what we spent but they also had a much better squad than ours to begin with when Klopp walked in than what Ancelotti was given to work with.

I don't care how they got the money they spent on players, the fact is they've bought multiple players at 70 million. We have none and only one that cost us more than 40.

It's ridiculous to say that present day Ancelotti has the same platform to improve on that Klopp had when he walked in. They were only 2 years off of finishing in 2nd place when Klopp took over ffs and we've had two flirtations with relegation under Koeman and Silva with most of the squad Ancelotti inherited.
