2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

So, let me get this right, you think 7th place is beyond £11m a year Carlo Ancelotti?

Why are we paying him the big bucks then?

In recent years, managers like Koeman and Sean Dyche have achieved this lofty position but Ancelotti, with players like James, DCL, Digne and Richarlison at his disposal, can’t achieve this?
Weird attitude from people. The first 11 is probably the best we’ve had (bar one or two obvious cretins) than we’ve had in ages, certainly going forwards, yet Ancelotti can’t possibly get us to the lofty heights of 7th in 18 months having bought a whole new midfield.

Tbh I worry that I’m already looking at a midfielder we bought in the summer and thinking he needs replacing.

But why does he trust a clearly finished Delph to play left back ahead of Nkounkou? To me that just doesn’t make any sense, and I’ve yet to see any evidence that it was the correct call. Unless it’s simply a case of age, which is poor and ageist if so.

Nkounkou has played in first team games and been fine, Delph has played in first team games and been terrible, and is a midfielder, and is finished. That’s on Ancelotti and not Brands, he needs to explain his decision making. No one forced him to not have our only fit left back on the bench.

I'd say it is because of age and experience and also because I think Carlo did not get a very good impression of him in the Newcastle game and is hesitant to give him the opportunity.

Delph's injury has forced his hand now but I won't be surprised if Carlo jibs NKounkou off after a dodgy performance in favour of playing Godfrey there.

When we signed a 19-year old NKounkou with no first team appearances on a free did people actually expect that he would be our back-up left back? I thought he would be one of those for the U23s and we would sign a senior player for that role. Once again it looks like Brands has gambled like he did with letting Kean go and the squad is weaker for it.

He impressed during the preseasons friendlies we saw him in but that's far off the level of the Premier League. I like the lad a lot but I can understand Carlo being hesitant over trusting a young kid with very little experience. The question is whether Carlo and Brands believed he was good enough for that role in the squad and if they did at the time, why doesn't Carlo appear to trust him now?

I'm not saying it isn't possible. I'm just saying that to expect/demand 7th when there are arguably 8 teams with a better squad than ours is a bit unreasonable.

Again, if that’s the case then it’s simply unfair because the whole team stunk the place out in that game, and it smacks of picking on a young player when the likes of Delph, Sigurdsson and Tosun all continue to be in the squad. There’s clearly double standards at play here.

Binning off a young player after one ropey performance is something we used to hammer Moyes for, it’s not a good look at all and in fact just makes you look an absolute bell end when the experienced player that you “trust” comes in and drops a 0/10 performance. We shouldn’t be letting him get away with his treatment of certain players just because he’s Carlo Ancelotti, Martinez and Moyes got slaughtered for this.

But the baffling thing is, carlo trusts a player made of sand with a top speed of 2 mph over nkoukou. That's bewildering. The only reason I can think of is that he didn't want to upset delph in order to keep the dressing room 'happy'. Well, we all saw how well that 'decision' went.

I think the reason we are seeing these players still being used in the squad is because he's been encouraged to get them some minutes on the pitch in the hopes we can convince someone to take them off of us.

I am not a big fan of the idea of Niels being disregarded on the basis of one performance either. Hopefully he takes his chance when given this time and doesn't give Ancelotti the choice.

What's gone on with Gordon does have me a bit worried on the youth players front but again I think it is more that he's been told to get the likes of Bernard, Delph, Tosun, and Sigurdsson on the pitch so someone will bid for them.

If he’s been told that then he should tell whoever has asked him to eff off because his job is to get results, not try and flog someone else’s tosh.

It's the only justification I really understand for Delph over NKounkou or Bernard over Gordon.

Fwiw, I can see why he’s trusting international footballers or players with hundreds of premier league appearances under their belt over a couple of 19 year old kids with less than a dozen games between them.

We know these players have proven to be gash, and as much as they’re disliked by the fans, I can see where he’s coming from. But if he could stop doing it, that would be sound.
