2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

I’ve heard a few people text in to the Radio Merseyside phone in just now.

One said “it’s time for Ancelotti to be moved on. He’s too clever for his own good”.

I’m lost for words. Some people seriously need to learn patience and give their heads a wobble. He’s by far the best we can get and shouts to remove him are idiotic.

Rinus Michels is an absolute idol of mine and one of the most underrated coaches of all time. However, even at their peak the great Ajax teams of the 70's only had 4 or 5 top class players.

That 95 side had 13 or 14 top players.

I must say I never thought Rinus Michels was underrated.

He was regarded as one of, if not the actual, best coach in the world back in the 70s as far as I can recall.

Unbelievably bad that show. Shame Alan Jackson isn't on it anymore to call out the absolute buffoonery.

Your mistake there is failing to realise that 100% of people that call up radio phone-ins are utter freaks

I agree mate. Our first 11 is capable of beating anyone in this league IMO. It’s how much of a shambles we look when you take one player out which is concerning though.

I’m sure once Digne’s back we’ll have another lengthy lay off to a key player to worry about though, such is Everton.
Defence is porous, and when we have an attacking player missing, that is when we struggle (my opinion).

If Coleman/Digne and our front three were available every match, I would think we would win/draw most matches, as we would still be scoring three to four goals a game and conceding at least two.

However, when James/Digne/Coleman/DCL and or Richarlison are missing, or worse, a combination of any of those two, that's when the shambles kicks in.

So wether it be ancelotti or another manager time is needed to get rid of those who are proven to step in and not deliver. I think you're right. We simply cant carry 5 or 6 players in the starting 11 who clearly are just average.
If we manage to chop that down to 3 or 4 in the next window.

Or.... like liverpool and other clubs have done recently when key players are missing. You stick to the basics, play a less expansive game and try to outwit the opposition in a more tactical battle. Something carlo has failed at miserably so far.

The defence of Ancelotti seems to be all about everything he’s done at other clubs but nothing about what he’s done at Everton.

We’ll see how long that lasts if he keeps making the same mistakes week in, week out.

I'm totally with you on this mate, it will fall on deaf ears but a few more defeats, which look inevitable with the way hes managed so far and we will see far more jump on the bandwagon.

Problem Is he wont be sacked because it will cost us around 50 million to release him and his staff so unfortunately will have to put up with his barmy selections and strange formations for the foreseeable future

In the last three games he seems to have had a mixture of Tom Davies rwb, iwobi lwb and also rwb, delph left back, Doucoure rwb and Godfrey lb. He’s also decided that the cover rb and lb are not good enough for the bench in those games. When he played both of them at previous times in the season, and they’ve been often seen on the bench in other fixtures before our first choices got injured. That’s just absolutely mind blowing. It’s fine if it works, but we’ve picked up 4 points from 9 against two promoted sides, one which will go down and another relegation favourite. And then people are complaining that there’s people questioning him???

It is and I think he's let us down.

I don't think Carlo rates much of this squad at all and changing the formation to prevent him from having to use the back up left back is big indicator of this imo.
The formation he changed to, he had to change again onSaturday when Delph went off, and it worked slightly better, slightly, doesn’t do a awful lot for Carlo’s reputation all this changing systems and putting square pegs in round holes, most of us agree that Carlo has been left with a very poor squad of players by past regimes but he surely should be doing better than he has done over the last five or six games, even allowing for injuries and suspensions, which of course hasn’t helped the manager, but some of the selected teams are very hard to understand, and the systems they play to.
