2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Not that black and white. Have many Everton fans buried their heads in the sand at how poor and unbalanced this squad was. Did they they think ancelloti had a magic wand.
If in another years time the squad hasnt got 3 maybe 4 better players and the shoots of improvement has stalled then maybe the job was to big for him.
We then start looking once again for a new manager.
In all my years watching Everton this job right now is more of a poisen chalice than ever before because the expensive recruitment of the past few years has been terrible and someone has to come in and clean that up.

It's cropped up because of the quote that emerged of Carlo saying he is not here to develop young players. If that is true then it kind of makes Brands position a bit pointless as his remit was to focus on younger players when he came in and it probably explains the contract delay. I don't really want the team to be full of ex Carlo players who are all 29+ and looking for a final payday because they can't get a game anywhere else, we are a club that needs to play our young players and we won't know if they are good enough if they don't get any game time.

If they're good enough im certain he will play them.
Again its came up over two players. One who hadnt even started a league game before he was signed.
Agree with the rest. A good balance of youth with players, who you may class as couldnt get a game elsewhere, is the player who looks like a rolls royce in amongst ford escorts by the way.

Rewrite of 12 months then... either way giving him any credit for playing Holgate and DCL is ridiculous. Giving him credit for DCLs improvement is fine.. but going on that he needs credit for even starting them is wrong

How is it ridiculous? The rewrite of history is pretending that Holgate and Calvert Lewin have always been the mainstays they are now.

Holgate spent the season on loan at West Brom playing RWB all of 18/19. That’s how much Silva thought of him. He was a candidate to leave the club until we botched getting Marcos Rojo in during the window so he had to stay as third choice centreback for the 19/20 campaign. He didn’t start the season either, firmly behind Keane and Mina in the manager’s thinking and barely got a start in the first ten games. He got some starts in the last 5 games due to rotation and injuries. When Ancelotti came in it almost immediately became Holgate as first choice plus one of the other two, and it would have been that this season were it not for his injury. I know some on here want to see 17 year old kids being thrown in but for an Italian manager to make a young 20s player who was on loan in the championship his main defender is taking a chance in my view.

Calvert Lewin was playing more regularly at the start of last season, but by the end of Silva’s reign he had started favouring Richarlison and Tosun to start down the middle. A lot of people on here thought he was a championship striker who needed replacing, but now they want to argue that Carlo gets no credit for sticking by an established premier league striker? Laughable.

Honestly, it would kill some people to not believe the sun shines out of Ancelotti’s arse and that he can’t ever get anything wrong. Giving him credit for putting his faith in “youngsters” Holgate and DCL, good lord. Holgate was playing games in central midfield under Ferguson.

I dont think so. If you were insinuating the performances keep you in a job it can depend what job you walk into. Some need tinkering. So need a complete rebuild job. One clearly needs more time than the other.
Hence its not always that black and white about performances with early stages.
If indeed some still class 12 months as early.

Thats bullshIt though.
In contrast in the space of 5 games the way some are now slaughtering him can be classed just as ridiculous.

I’m not slaughtering him, I’m questioning his decisions because they appear to be having a detrimental effect on the team and results. I’ve never called for him to be sacked, I believe he’s smart enough to rectify his mistakes. People act as if he doesn’t/can’t make mistakes and we’re not allowed to question him.

He should be judged after five years, not before. The squad should be a mixture of youth players developed from within and shrewd signings that fit the system, maybe having to break the bank occasionally to get the 'right' transfer target. From that solid foundation and an established playing style, progress can be made. There are at least five teams well ahead of us in terms of squads and playing styles. Realistically at the moment we are trying to compete with the likes of Wolves and Leicester who both have established squads and styles of play developed over a few years. To get to their level first, consistently should be the main target before getting too ambitious. It will take time and won't come overnight, it hasn't been instant for any other successful teams so why should we expect it to be different.

I’ve no problem with people questioning Carlo’s tactics. I suppose the counter factual is, imagine he picked nkounkou and Kenny and we still lost those games. The fact is the squad isn’t very good past the first XI and we will always struggle when injuries and suspensions bite.

The two games for me where he got it badly. wrong were Newcastle and Leeds.

I question some of his decisions. I wouldnt play alex iwobi in a month of sundays.
But some of the posts now are getting ridiculous.
What do some want. Him gone and if another manager hasnt changed an awful squad around in 12 months we get rid of them aswell.
Ancelloti in no magic wand shock.

I do not think that anyone truly would like to see him leave yet. But, I can understand why some fans are growing impatient. As many have said, it is reasonable to criticise and normal to feel disappointed after recent results.

Whatever happens, the fans will keep supporting Ancelotti and the team and hopefully things improve. 9th position in the table, where the team is now, is about where you would expect this team to finish at the end of the season too.

That would be disappointing as the team has wasted the advantage gained in the first games. But if you were looking at the teams you may expect to finish ahead of us, 9th is where the team are.
