He’s come up with a great alternative system. It’s a great mix of big units, good defenders who are comfortable playing deep and Holgate and Ben, can play out and transitition. All the time two very decent midfielders shielding, then transitioning.

While we have one of the best holding forwards in general play and a high energy, dangerous pest in Richarlson, who can penetrate.

We have stumbled upon an effective system through necessity, says a lot about our manager.

Jamo, still to come.

One point behind Saint Ralph and Brendan. 3 points ahead of Nuno, 6 points ahead of Bielsa, 7 ahead of Arteta. 5 points off the top of the league.

Not bad for a bloke without a long term plan, with no discernible style of play, who can’t organise a defence, isn’t showing any signs of improvement, can’t organise fitness drills, and is tactically inferior to Steve Bruce.

A point ahead of Chelsea who everyone were tipping for the league this time last week.

Our aim needs to be 30 points before the new year, that’s the mark that enables a good foundation going on to compete for Europe.

And for my reckoning having played pretty much all the teams in the top 5 or 6 places of the league. Much easier games to come.

For context, the infamous 8th place finish under Allardyce that the ancell-outis love to bang on about was achieved with 49 points.

Even if Carlo kept us in relegation form of 1 point per game for the rest of the season we’d still meet that points total. All of which suggests we’ll finish miles ahead of Allardyce’s 49, and Silva’s 54 which would be progress in anyone’s book.

Jesus if we just had mediocre form in that bad very bad spell we would be running away with the league.

Burnely Leeds and Newcastle we deserved well more than 1 point from those three.

Southampton and United we were terrible so fair enough but those other three games we should have easily picked up 4 or 5 points which would have us up in second.

This is just the base camp as well. This team still has Digne and James Rodriguez to come into it, two world class players. Imagine another transfer window under Carlo where the likes of Kenny Davies Besic Bolasie Tosun move out, and others like Godfrey Allan Doucoure move in.

He has this terrible squad doing very decent stuff after barely any time under him. Imagine a squad of most of his own players with everyone having had a few seasons under him. Imagine where we might be at that point.

Two dynamics I’m looking at is competitiveness and developmental progress.

It’s nice to be competing, we’ve taken Spurs, Chelsea and Leicester tonight and we held Mordor to. We can be competitive for Europe and really just a few points of the top of the table and it’s almost Xmas. When you think of were we after the Mordor derby in Silva’s last game around this time last year. We are a radically more competitive team. I think when supporters come back it will be massively enabling for us to.

But all that said I judge this year as year 1 under Carlo really after a rescue job last year. In a way if we don’t get Europe that’s ok, it’s the % of developmental progress is key. Look at the players he has improved, Holgate, DCL, Keane, Mina has come on recently, even Iwobi is theretening. That’s not going out and signing players that is getting the best and most and developing what’s already here. He’s turned players worth at a push north of 10 mill into players worth 10s of millions in a year, that’s been impressive. But it’s more it’s the team, he identified leadership, energy, physicality as key attributes and gone and got the right players. He’s blended a squad and despite some bad injuries and being short we always look balanced. He’s a terrific manager, improving players values, making us competitive, making us balanced and changing the identity, the development since Silva’s derby is stark in a short space of time.

What excites me is this in year 1, if he can progress us more to what we are now, it’s massively, massively exciting and you know what he can and I think he’s only just beginning.

Digne and James may be great players, but they lack tactical discipline. The wins against Chelsea and Leicester have been built on tactical discipline and controlling the transitions.

Games against teams who look to dominate possession suit us and above all suit Carlo.

If we can sneak into the champions league places...just imagine the players who will want to join Ancelotti...
