I guess you're right we still have a strong chance at making it into the Euro Conference or whatever that crap is for finishing 7th.

But I think we're playing poorly and won't.

Yes. That's a fairer analysis.

Most of the sides from 4th down have been inconsistent. We need to find some consistency and form, or at least maintain our performance.

Maybe we might surprise a few and get through to the semis of the cup.

I think Mina is a big miss. And that Ancelotti will regret messing about with our best back 4, which was working

I've said it many times
Our 1st choice 11 gives anyone a game including them tonight.
That doesnt mean we will beat everyone btw , but as you rightly said early season shows what we have.
Its when we have injuries/ suspensions that pull us back. Look at City's bench , they beat most if not all other teams.
Even after some sorry results we are still 7th with a game in hand plus in the last 8 of the FA cup.
Hopefully these really costly injuries clear up for the run in.
If we get the same calibre of players as last summer in we will be challenging of that I've no doubt.

We don't have that many injuries, so it's not an excuse.

Injuries aren't an excuse for creating fewer chances than Newcastle.

We have a player in contention for the golden boot because he's put away 60% of 'big chances' created for him - which is up there with Kane for conversion rates.

We need to create more, because if not, we'll keep losing games that we - on paper - shouldn't. That's regardless of injuries.

I thought we were well in it until the moment of class from Mahrez.

Pickford’s shameful attempt at stopping Bernardo’s shot killed us off.

It wasn’t a bad performance, Richarlison looked better again today too.

Win on Saturday and we’re back in business.

Just a question though mate out of curiosity.
You can’t surely be happy with the football we see witnessing?
it’s absolutely dire.
Do you think they are getting the best out of the players available?

its been crap at times, but plenty of times the attitude and work rate has been at a noticeably different level to before he came. As I mentioned in a previous post, when we get some kind of control or a foothold in a game I can see a quality there that we haven’t seen since Martinez first season. You can also visibly see a team working on defense whether in our shape or just on the set pieces. It’s not been consistently good and isn’t currently great but it’s been way better than most of rubbish I’d been watching before.

Its crap now but it’s not been a crap season.

I think lots of our existing players have been useless under various managers. I’m happy he is getting something out of them, but not at all shocked that we can still sink to lows even with Ancelotti.

I clearly see the base for us to build on from here. If not out the door, then just having Siggurdson Gomes Davies getting less minutes in that midfield for me changes absolutely everything when it comes to how we attack and how flexible we can be in-game and game to game. Never mind the other stuff we need to get rid of...

Love the man, it's such a weird season when weird results have happened all season, and we have had massive injuries this season, but... I just find us incredibly boring, like unwatchable.
Think I have missed a few games in the last half dozen just because I can't be arsed watching what's coming, 10 men behind the ball, backs to the wall dull Everton. Think the season could have been different if we hadn't had injuries to key players but I just think he's got his home tactics horribly wrong all season, we've had good results but I don't particularly think we've had many good performances, just solid ones.

Hope he gets backed massively in the summer and has a full season with the fans and he will turn this around I know he will, but he should take some criticism for some of the displays we had had under him.

The bigger problem is in 15 months here Ancelotti has yet to develop a consistent midfield system that both shields the backline and provides an avenue to score goals. Sure we could sit in 4 CBs and try and hold on for 1-0, 0-0, 1-1 every week, but I don't think trying to move past that was all the way the wrong move. But by not laying the groundwork in the middle we've been unable to do it. DCL has been a blessing and a curse as his super ability to win aerial balls gives us an easy out, but has also let us get complacent and not realize the level of dysfunction in the middle.

I've said this a few times but people have thought greater defensive solidity would have been the move to not lose to Newcastle and Fulham but we created nothing so is playing a 0-0 in both those games really any better? The balance has been completely wrong since that run where we played bad against Saints and United after which Carlo never went back to what had been a working team.

Feels like Ive seen this before with a certain Moyes and Neville. Shoehorning them in no matter how ineffective or even detrimental they are.
He did it the other day - changing the entire system just because Gylfi had played well v Spurs.

I actually thought Gylfi was fine today up until he went back deep.

But that's the point. He plays at 10, or not at all. That's how it should be, barring emergencies.

Tonight wasn't an emergency. It should have just been a straight swap, and should have been done at 1-1.

Instead, he waits, and then it's panic mode.

I highly doubt we stop teams from ever shooting again, but if we do manage that I volunteer to stand in goal and watch the game.

That's not the same and you know it.

There's a difference between a player having a shot, and allowing a world class player on his stronger foot 10 yards of space 20 yards out.

He cant play deep.

I get that but again I don't really think it matters who is taking the shot, it was a fairly easy save and he didn't make it. I mean the Tielemans one was also bad but is it less bad because he's not as good a player and had less space to hit it? For me the answer is no.
