I really don’t like us using the injury excuse if we had better alternative players available I wouldn’t have even mentioned it. I seriously highly doubt any other team in this league has worse back up players than us.
Carlo doesn’t use it but it’s hard to get away from the fact.
Mina 1st choice pritty much
Coleman 1st choice when fully fit
Dacoure 1st choice
James 1st choice
Olson back up but plays

then you got
Allan who clearly not fit and wouldn’t be getting 90.
Davies just back from injury.

main problem is still midfield. Gomes and Siggy can’t control a game and are scared to go forward. Allan can play good passes but as stated already not fully fit yet
Davies has improved but he no Maddison/Grelish type player

Carlo's supporters.

Shut up. Knobhead.

I've supported Everton all my life, and I've supported every single one of our managers up to, and beyond the point of most people.

Is this something to call someone out for now?

Some bizarre views on here. It's like those weird implications some people throw around, basically saying people disappear when we lose. Well, so what? I barely talk to my wife for an hour after a defeat. So yeah, I only post when we're winning. Do I look arsed? Am I not allowed to enjoy our victories unless I whinge about the defeats?

Trumpian levels of devotion on display tonight, together with the usual name-calling and outraged derision for dissenters.

Yes we have a limited squad beset by injuries, but could and should be doing better. I have no particular love for Moyes, especially in light of his disrespect after the move to Man U, but does he really have a better squad at his disposal or is he trying harder? It will be interesting to see where we all end up

This season is probably a write-off, and I think Carlo sees it that way. If he can coax better results out of the run-in I will be happy enough, but I don't think it is part of a masterplan. I expect he is looking longer term. I have a few years on him and can identify with his appreciation of the reduced pressure at Everton, but I fervently hope he is serious about improving the team going forward.

4 points off 4th with a game in hand, 11 still to play and in the quarter finals of the cup.

If you're mad that this season is a write off I’d have loved to see your reaction at this stage of the season over the last decade or so.

Pritty much the last 25 years

Only thing I want to see is us creating more chances.

We shouldn't be having 1-2 opportunities a game.

Other than that we really are doing brilliantly.

Yeah midfield is such a problem. No one can stay fit so we always end up back at a pace less combo of Gomes Siggurdson Davies. All three have played ok at times but there will always be a game that catches them out. We need Allan Docuoure fit and available most games, we need Gbamin to be a viable option, and we probably need two other midfielders as well to ensure that when we go to top grounds we’re not outran and outfought.

That is exactly the point I am trying to make, circling the wagons and being dismissive of other people's views. I think that is worth calling out.

We've been pretty reliant on crosses all season but we were putting more good ones in earlier in the season. There's been a real lack of good deliveries recently. Part of that has been Holgate and Godfrey playing as full backs, but part of it has been a lack of quality too.

I thought you might like it, but I'm not calling anyone Trump, just emphasising the unquestioning belief of Carlo's supporters.
I think you are confusing pragmatism and realism for dogmatism there.

I think too many people lack perspective.

You only have to look at the respective benches yesterday to see the gulf between us and Chelsea right now. When was the last time we won at Chelsea? We went with a game plan and we were unlucky with the own goal. Our options were limited from there.

This is a work in progress. One more win and we have equaled last year’s points tally with 1/4 of the season to play. We are clearly going in the right direction.

We aren’t winning every game, we simply lack the depth to do that. Other team’s have been a bit luckier in that regard.

So I don’t feel the need to question ancelotti. We are in the verge of something big over the next few years. We’ll get more consistent as we improve the squad. In the meantime not everything will go our way.

So it’s not unwavering support. It’s just patience and pragmatism.

There is no way that we "should" be doing better. Never heard such nonsense in my life.

I do get the injury issue, but the back 4 yesterday had kept 3 clean sheets on the bounce. And when we beat Chelsea in the reverse fixture, the only difference from that defence is mina out for digne who was injured last time.

The midfield last time against them was allan, doucoure and siggy, so James was out then as well. So only 2 changes, mina and doucoure. And gomes was actually part of the team that we all see as our best 11 from when we were beating teams for fun at start of season. But doucoure clearly was a huge miss. I think Davies would have been better than gomes but clearly wasn't fit enough.

I love carlo, but all 11 players failed to turn up yesterday and some of that has to be down to him not firing them up in the right way. That happens, and doesn't take away from the fact that he has got it right the majority of the season. Its not one issue of just injuries, its a multitude of things that led to us not performing.

I agree with most of this, but there are several examples in this thread that go a bit further by questioning people's sanity etc. for being critical of poor performances.

They did turn up but we were just beaten by a superior team. It's really simple.

Sooner or later that gulf in quality will show.
