Cash, the 'never never' and now

Count me as one who doesn't take offense at the term Yank unless it's meant as an insult, in which case I'll probably laugh at it anyway cuz it's not much an insult.

More to the point, I always get a laugh when people say things like "I hate Americans" as if we're all exactly the same. In case you haven't noticed, America is a fairly large place with every single nationality, ethnicity, and viewpoint represented. So basing your feelings towards 307 million people based on a sample size of a few academics (not exactly your typical sports fan anyway) is pretty funny to me, more than offensive. Plus, by definition, the "Yanks" on this board are EXACTLY the type of people you can talk sport with because we're all here because we love and support Everton. So you're pointing your gun in our direction seems a little misguided. Finally, I wouldn't base my impressions of any nationality based on the way they act on vacation. Trust me, if you care at all about English national pride, you wouldn't want me judging you lot on how you act on holiday over here. Come to the US and you'll find that most of us are pretty nice open people, but yes most them won't give a damn about English football, any more than most of you don't give a damn who's going to win the Super Bowl this year, but diversity is what makes people interesting, not sameness.
Very good points mate. I live an hour away from what's basically an English tourist colony (Benidorm) and I avoid it like the plague. There are some great people who holiday there but it's overflowing with embarrassing Brits imo.

I always think of Yankees as anyone from north of the Mason-Dixon line. But I imagine that's also an over simplified interpretation. Do people from the mid-west, for example, consider themselves Yankees?

Wait, wait wait! You're saying I can't judge and dislike entire nations on the basis of blind prejudice and a single bad experience?

You strike at the heart of me, sir, the very heart.

Listen obviously, I don't actually hate Americans. It's just I often find their attitudes toward football annoying and if we're going to attract support on the basis of having signed one big name american player, that's not going to be people who are already huge football fans, like the sound Yanks on here are. And if we get american students coming over here to my university and they start talking bollocks about Everton and how Donovan is our only good player and Moyes is clueless for not playing him from the start in that big cup match and we should go buy Bradley and Altidore now, I will smack them.

And then I'll lose my job and end up on the streets and, since the tories have cut the benefits, I'll likely die. And ultimately as much as I like Donovan he'll have to play pretty damn well for me to want that to happen.

It's all good brother. I totally understand your trepidation. But Everton do need to grow the fan base a bit, and America is sort of there for the taking. Why not us (Everton)? Part of that is putting up with newbies, as annoying as that can be for a true blue like yourself.

For the record, I've been an Everton fan since the beginning of the CL season in 2004, so I'm not one of those you're talking about, just new to posting on this board. Long story, but I decided to give soccer (football) a chance (I was a hater before that), and decided if I was gonna do this properly I needed a team. I watched Rooney at the Euros that year, and loved his game, found out he played for Everton then watched the whole transfer saga unfold. I watched the first game of the year against Arsenal at Goodison and I just fell in love with the team, the fans, everything. Most importantly I had set a criteria for choosing a team based on the primary principle that I was not allowed to root for one of the big four. If one of you decided to start liking baseball and said "I'm a Yankees fan!" I'd punch you right in the teeth. But basically it wasn't a conscious decision. Everton found me, not the other way around. Having Tim and possibly Landon on the team is nice, but I would never root for a team because Americans were there. If that were true I would have gone in the tank for Fulham a long time ago (and I do like them. Family club. Seem like nice people).

So hugs and kisses all 'round.

Not really, but I live sort of right in an area that is a mixture of northern and southern culture. A little south of me people talk like Bill Clinton. A little north and it's totally different. So people can live a few hours away from each other and sound and think completely different.

People don't call themselves Yankees here, the just get called that by southerners who don't like them. So I guess it is an insult but it's a benign one at best.

For the record, I quite like a lot of the american posters on here, yourself included. I honestly don't want to chase you guys off just because you were unlucky enough to have not been born in the motherland.

But we don't really do hugs and kisses in this country. Just firm handshakes and anal sex.

(I have a soft spot for Fulham myself. Their fans can be a bit snobbish though. Not fond of us northerners.)

You had me at "anal sex".

Everton
Players Purchased £105,050,500
Players Sold £80,100,000
Nett £24,950,500
Per Season £3,118,813

Since Moyes took over.

Thems the fachts guys, its not gonna change anytime soon.

Sell to buy has always been the way with Kewnrong.

When Moyes says we have no money, he really does mean it.

So if we hadnt have cocked up and gave Gosling away, Moyes could have double his spending power this Season, I bet hes well happy.

What it is moon head - is a ******* business. We are trying to balance the books. We don't have no dual weapons dragging us 400m into debt do we?

It's almost like you need to be dropping 30m on some shitehawk just to give their fans a reason to stroke,

**** that [Poor language removed]. I'm taking massive pleasure seeing this side go from nothing to a bloody good squad with some real talent.
