The 4231 one we seem to start with. I can’t get my head around it.

We play Siggurdson or Rooney on the left and Lennon on the right of the 3.

Gotcha.

Maybe he did a bit against Man U with Gylfi out, but Rooney isn't playing on the left, he's basically roaming, or playing more of a 6. But still, it's definitely a problem, but not sure what formation would be better as we've got serious personnel issues.

First issue - Martina. With him playing the 3, it's forcing the 11 to come way the heck back and cover. Yannick played there yesterday and didn't come back and cover - our offense was better as a result, but Man U didn't take advantage of it until the second half. At that point, without cover, Mata sat over there between the corner of the box and sideline with all day to do whatever he wanted.

Second issue - CF. Niasse was okay in the first half, but unless we have a world class 9 to hold up the ball, we need to support him better. That requires coordinated efforts between the other players - the backs need to support the wingers (11/7) and ACM (10), the CBs or 6/8 need to effectively take the ball back, the need to 6/8 cover for the outside backs so they can push the wingers up and/or provide more width when we have posssession. That being said, CF is still a hole for us. Just holding the ball for a couple seconds every now and then would allow for our whole squad to push up a bit. I'm not talking hoofball here, I'm even talking about coming back for the ball at the midline.

If we had better CBs, I would suggest a back 3, but who the heck are going to play the wingbacks? We have some offensive options wide, but are any of them capable of defending? Lennon, yes. Lookman? Bolaisse? Sandro? Vlasic?

I would like to see something similar to a 4-4-2 with DCL and Niasse as the strikers...give it a solid try with Vlasic/Lookman/Lennon/Bolasie feeding them the ball with Rooney/Siggy/Gana/Davies/Barkley backing them up.

Spot on mate, I agree. Been saying that to my mates I go the match with. We are trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

My issue with that idea is that neither of those guys are any good. That's exactly the lineup we put forth against Liverpool and we created NOTHING. It was our worst offensive performance all year.

The last two games we've had chances. Not enough, but we haven't sat back, we haven't packed it in. We cannot play formations without personnel. DCL cannot hold the ball up and Niasse isn't much better, so playing an old school 9 won't work. Neither of those two are really Poacher-type, either, and Sandro isn't one either, so that idea is out. That's leaving us pretty limited tactics-wise. Any formation we play with Martina at LB will force us to cover back for him, yet he's not stellar as a wingback. We don't have quick/skilled enough CBs to leave them exposed in space, so many pressing tactics are limited. It's not good.

So we are over 200 pages on here and I'm guessing the new is that Everton out in a bid for 25m and now they want 27m .. any update to that?

Wages are apparently a sticking point, player is happy with £60k a week but Moshiri insists he takes £150k, Tosun not sure how he feels about this and thinks Moshiri is playing mind games so it's come to a standstill at the moment.

It just seems so obvious. It must be GLARINGLY obvious live at the match.

A LB and CF helps a bit. Still uncertain that Cenk is the man, but he does give us some things we do not currently have. True LB/CB allows Sam to employ some different tactics for sure. Still lack quality at CB and in the middle of the field, but unless we are selling a LOT of players, that'll be tough to fix in January.

Haha! :) I'm just talking the more attacking/forward players. The back 4 with Pickford would be Kenny/Holgate/Williams/Garbutt ;)
If we have named the squad and want to now include Garbutt will we have to sell someone or drop another player from the squad, same question for the new Turkish lad if that ever happens.

Untill they realize it's actually 150K Turkish Lira a week. Then he's going to be pissed. Confusing these currencies.

I know, but the ball hardly left our half of the pitch against Liverpool...we basically parked the bus from the word go.

I pretty much agree with the rest...I guess you are right we don't have the personnel to play a proper 4-4-2. However, I think we do against the lesser teams or at least the formation/lineup we saw against Man U (against those lesser teams).
