24 free kicks they were awarded last night to 12 for Juventus. They go hand in hand with the possession stats massively in their favour.

You're right, they do go hand in hand. Barca had more possession, meaning Juve had to tackle them more to retrieve the ball, leading to more fouls.

No, they got possession and kept it by throwing themselves to the deck and that mug Turk ref gave them everything...including denying a pen to Juventus at 1-1.

Having a bit of a giggle at the idea that Barcelona's success is based mostly on their superior diving and referee-baiting ability.

La Liga is like the Liverpool Business House League outside of Madrid/Valencia/Seville/Atletico.

It's when they play decent opposition that the old kill-the-game tactics are deployed.

Results against those opponents this season.

Real 3 - 1 Barca
Barca 5 - 1 Sevilla
Valencia 0 - 1 Barca
Barca 3 - 1 Atleti
Barca 1 - 0 Atleti
Atleti 2 - 3 Barca
Barca 2 - 1 Real
Sevilla 2 - 2 Barca
Barca 2 - 0 Valencia
Atleti 0 - 1 Barca

So 10 games, 8 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat against the only apparently decent teams in the league with 21 goals scored. They also defeated the champions of the big four leagues in Europe (England, Germany, France, Italy) on the way to winning the CL, scoring 16 goals against those teams, yet that still isn't enough to suggest they're a worthy team?

Come on guys, you know Daveks not being serious.

Barcelona actually win things playing their boring pass it around loads type football by scoring more goals than the opposition.

Of course Davek doesn't like that, his hero Martinez does't like scoring goals and winning games either.

If they'd just stick to winning the passing they'd be ok.

No mate, they dived their way to the Champions League trophy.

The results dont contradict what I said.

Honestly, you'd think the claim that Barcelona suffocate the life out of a game was akin to saying the moon is made of green cheese.

There's nothing outlandish about my p.o.v on the subject. But struggle on reiterating the MSM message put out concerning this lot, and which the sheeple lap up unthinkingly.

'twas ever thus though surely Dave? I mean the Milan team that thumped Barcelona 4-0 back in 1994 conceded 15 goals in the league that season. 15 ffs. They only scored 36 and were the epitome of mean in defence, yet that final performance was one of the finest of the modern era. That team undoubtedly suffocated opponents, as shown by the number of goals they conceded. Were they a bad team? No, of course not.

That Barcelona have developed a system that is so effective at retaining possession is something to credit them with. Firstly it's incredibly hard to do, and secondly it's up to other teams to get it off of them.

I'm not sparing many successful teams from the critique I'd lay at the door of Barcelona. The difference is the overkill about them as being this that and the other.

I call it as I see it: they bore the arse off me...and I'm not the only one by a long chalk. You like it and see the mastery of it; I see no spectacle in it whatsover. You may as well open up the back of a mechanical watch and let me have a look inside - it's about as thrilling.

Me too. Not saying they are not very good at football, but their way of playing it doesnt engage me. Yeah, I know that there are a billion gifs and vids of Messi et al scoring some ace goals, but even so, they just leave me cold.

It's the keep ball ad infinitum + the theatrical throwing of themselves to the ground when any opponent tries to stop the (YAWN) "passing carrousel". It's a deadly combination for me.

How anyone elevates that lot to the zenith of football technique and their historical club pecking order I really dont know. They are the anti-Christ of football.

I think we are of similar vintage mate, and they dont thrill me like some Brazil, Dutch, Argentinian national sides did, nor club sides like AC & Inter, United, Juve, Ajax, even that lot in their 70's pomp, and obvs us in the 80,s.

Struggling for a description. Maybe a combo of surgical and cynical.

Only Liverpool player back then worth watching was McDermott...then again he was so un-Liverpool anyway. The rest were hard running thugs for the most part and shut down games very quickly when they got their noses in front. I despised them. I couldn't even stick Dalglish's style of play. There's never been any flamboyance about that club (the Evans team in the early to mid 90s had a go like, but failed badly).

On the pitch Barca are close to perfection, so is perfection boring? My personal view , having watched them for the majority of the season is no. That said , I preferred the football Real Madrid were playing earlier in the season

There's a reason though why I'd say Arsenal of 2002-2004 were the most exciting team I've ever seen. I don't think Barca are on that level of excitement.
