Champions League revamp

Do the PL have jurisdiction here. These clubs aren’t threatening to pullout of the PL as a competition. Though I’d love to see the PL bin them all.

Seems to me on reflection, this is about creating a new CL that they don’t have to qualify for, with less teams and thus More money.

Essentially that’s what this is a closed shop CL with less teams and 11 clubs making more.

Worse then the current model.

Seems to me this is a game of chicken between them and Uefa, but I’d love if every authority that can nails them.

I do however have no trust in Uefa.

that statement from UEFA is explicit and it implies they’ve already agreed everything - it would be a huge and ruinous climb down if they didn’t go through with it

This has probably been said already but I'll just repeat it. Whatever happens with these clubs happens, let's hope they throw the book at them but regardless I am immensely proud and relieved to be an Everton fan today and will continue to be proud of this club for things like this nonsense to never have to occur to us. I couldn't care less if I've never watched us lift a trophy, if we win a League Cup it'll be worth 10 times more than any of these greedy rotten scum clubs winning their imaginary European Country Club competition.

Yeah - Im with you, but i suppose there is an arguement that its an unfair playing field with CL revenue either way. but the rest of it is spot on.

I find myself thinking "what will karen brady do" for some reason (the most self-serving entity outside the 6) and I think when you look at clubs self interest, they might be quietly ok with this. More European spots (granted in a different format) available etc.

If she has a vote on let them stay (with no UEFA european football for them) or chuck em all out, she will want to keep them in and protect the tv deal as much as possible.

It only becomes an unfair playing field when you don't give teams a chance to qualify for a top competition. Spurs are the biggest example of this in the PL. City too who couldn't sustain its spending without it at one point. Look at Leicester...they could qualify for the champions league and win an FA Cup and become a force in the league.

The competition improves the quality from top to bottom. It's attracts investment and development as they're goals to reach.

Allowing sides to take part in an exhibition league for profit doesn't create competition.

But the CL is a licensed competition from the body that oversees FFP and the rules of the game.

I'd imagine Karren Brady will see a huge opportunity, to be a leading PL team and take the place of one of the giants currently sitting in 7th or 9th.

Possibly - I think her priority will be keep as much money coming in, especially from PL TV rights as CL would be devalued massively.

Just announced- there will be a 10billion euro solidarity fund to redress income disparity in domestic leagues, presumably they are banking on the pacifier working
