That’s why it seems strange to me they announced it before getting all teams onboard
PSG probably turned it down cos they knew Qatar would lose the world cup

From what I can see only 2 spots are given to "wildcards" based on past performance, the other 3 spaces are given to Champions of lesser leagues. It's not good at all, but comparatively speaking, the two options are poles apart. One is a closed shop for 15 teams every year and they control the finances. The other provides 4 or 5 spaces for clubs who miss out on normal qualification and domestic league points would still result in qualification for like 32 teams.
One is bad, the other is utterly horrific. That's why there is not equal coverage.
If the premier leagues response is hard, those share prices will tumble.Of course it will be (the risk) - let's hope they have all misread the mood music & they all get chucked out, but I struggle to see a scenario where it happens in reality

Keep the 6 of them out of it.

Its not great that 2 teams get wildcards, but its nothing compared to this.
Yes nowhere near as bad as the Super League but allowing “elite teams in if they haven’t qualified,” is ridiculous and harms the integrity of it.If a team finishes 4th they’re in. Yes it’s protectionist and unfair in favour of elite teams but it’s not denying access to anyone good enough. The super league is.
I wasn't comparing the nature of the scandal itself, but rather agreeing that a basic 1 tier relegation wouldn't work anyway in the long run.Well in that scenario it was the right punishment due to the nature of the scandal.
With the Super League it's very very different in that it's a fundamental mutilation of the game.
The group that really has the most leverage to stop this abomination in the long run is the players. These clubs have made a bit of a miscalculation, I think, about the loyalties of these so-called “future fans.”
The fans they mean are the ones like my girlfriend’s brother-in-law, who is a Korean guy that grew up in China. He is an early-30s, FIFA-playing football “fan,” but his fandom is heavily driven by the superstar players. He just follows Ronaldo wherever he goes. He was a Real Madrid “fan,” and now he’s a Juventus “fan.”
But what happens if someone like Ronaldo or other big-name players refuse to play in the Super League (especially with the threat of missing Euros and World Cups)? You think that guy will still pay any attention to Juventus, wherever they’re playing? Of course not. That type of “fan” is so fickle. They have no concern for teams, only players. Almost like pop stars or movie stars. So if those players say no, the “future fans” will be lost anyway.
Keep the 6 of them out of it.
