Champions League revamp

Everything is up in the air but I'd be reasonably sure of some degree of a general crackdown on silent 3rd-party investors as a quid pro-quo for any settlement / compromise that Everton and other clubs would be ok in agreeing to, if if stops the Super League concept.

If it doesn't stop it and there was a split, which is highly unlikely, I very much doubt that we would retain the same appeal to Usmanov either for current sponsorship, or the prospect of taking a shareholding in the longer-term.

That's why this whole thing is critical, for every club in one way or another.

One possible outcome is more or less the reverse - a one-time amnesty for additional investment to get the clubs through the immediate-term consequences so that they can collectively make a long-term play.

I would imagine that what's going on behind the scenes is some intense bargaining over how to solve the immediate-term problems and what their collective interests are insofar as a fair (and profitable) competition goes.

It would be good to see some sort of punishment. I cant see it happening though. If it was up to me they would have a 20 point deduction imposed in the league for 2 seasons and a 6 point deduction in Europe imposed for the next 2 seasons that they qualify and play in europe. I think thats fair becasue it makes it very difficult for them to qualify for the champions league for 2 seasons and then once the deduction is over it will make it very hard for them to get out of the group stage for a couple of seasons.

not strong enough

let’s see how much backbone the relevant governing bodies have to squash this.

if they have the bottle to protect all of football not just these greedy yank owners that’s what they should be doing....whacking these clubs so hard it will take them years to recover.

maybe relegated them to league 2

The group that really has the most leverage to stop this abomination in the long run is the players. These clubs have made a bit of a miscalculation, I think, about the loyalties of these so-called “future fans.”

The fans they mean are the ones like my girlfriend’s brother-in-law, who is a Korean guy that grew up in China. He is an early-30s, FIFA-playing football “fan,” but his fandom is heavily driven by the superstar players. He just follows Ronaldo wherever he goes. He was a Real Madrid “fan,” and now he’s a Juventus “fan.”

But what happens if someone like Ronaldo or other big-name players refuse to play in the Super League (especially with the threat of missing Euros and World Cups)? You think that guy will still pay any attention to Juventus, wherever they’re playing? Of course not. That type of “fan” is so fickle. They have no concern for teams, only players. Almost like pop stars or movie stars. So if those players say no, the “future fans” will be lost anyway.

It's mad how people don't understand relegation does next to nothing. They'd come up the following year with their reserves.

The problem is that they've undercut the very foundation of football. They need to not be allowed to compete at any tier, full stop. It's the only possible sanction against this.
It's a rarity, but I agree with Tubey here! lol

Like when Juve were relegated for corruption back in the 06/07 season.

They bounced straight back up, qualified for the CL in their first season back and were champions again within 5 years.

They've won every league title since. That sure showed em, eh?
