Champions League revamp

I said it earlier: watch Rummenigge. I said he would be the one to broker a "compromise". Thing is, he is as ruthless in the board room as he was in the penalty box. It's almost like he has executed a reverse takeover of UEFA.

The fact that he's joined UEFA suggests that Bayern wont be signing up anytime in the near future either which is big.

PSG may join after 2022 WC, that remains to be seen, but if they do they wont be a 'founding member', have any say and get paid a lot less, so cant even see them signing up in future

Please ban these smug parasites!

If they don’t ban them from the league, there’s literally no point in the competition. May as well scrap it altogether. FFP and other elements have done their bit to try and make it a closed shop already. But if this goes through and they’re still allowed to compete in the same league as 14 other teams, there really is no point whatsoever.

Smells like bribes. Bet Newcastle hand their hand out

If I were betting on a fink, it would be Ashley.

The problem is that, to quote Asimov, "He lacks even the decency of honest corruption. He doesn't stay bribed, not for any price."

I would imagine that a large part of the silence this morning was in figuring out the deal to get him on board and keep him there.

What's amazing is the deck was already stacked so far in their favor that all they had to do was not be idiots and yet Arsenal, United and Spurs all couldn't pull it off. And I guess Milan too. So instead of not being dumb they'll just further rig it.

Ive been in Asia long enough to "see it with my own eyes" as well.

Lets not get side tracked, however take a look at a well known Malaysian headquartered airline. Look at how many of the wealthy have procured their assets and fortune. Its not based on capitalism, its generational wealth based on corruption. Not only in Malaysia of course.

Im not sure comparing Mcdonalds/Family Mart in Malaysia/Japan are good examples. There are cultural differences and monetary differences between lifestyle there and Australia.

Back to the topic in hand where you mention that theres a "super league title to play for" (in name only) and "less incentive to win games"...

...this is EXACTLY the same as the summer friendly tournaments held in Asia and US every summer pre covid.

Take a look at the global viewing figures.

You lost me about 14 teams and 28 games...

"Casual/new fans" tend to be part of a group who talk about games together and see it as a social conversation topic.

That wouldnt exist on the same level and so the interest wouldnt be there.

Take away the international games for players and Beckham would NEVER have had such a global following...nor would Ferdinand. Two players who were massively popular to the majority of Asian fans.

Imagine Richarlison or Son saying they will play in the super league and miss internationals.

Never happening.

Alright just quickly because its very off topic - the wealthy have procured their assets in the same way in many countries. Through capitalism. Also its slightly disingenous to say its done through generational wealth through corruption, of course there's probably more here in South East Asia, or any unregulated country, but every country has corruption, even my own country in Australia, its just more invisible than other countries whose culture doesn't hide it as much. There's capitalism and corruption everywhere, to varying degrees. But unregulated capitalism and extreme capitalism, where there are significantly less rules for the working class allows owners to get very rich. Most of this is done by corrupt people who own the rule of law and allowing these things to happen to their own people for their own benefits. I think the pandemic opened people's minds on how corrupt some countries could be to their own people, especially when people started to compare benefits in one country to another.

Also the Mcdonalds comparison is basically like it blows my mind, someone could be on $10 a day here in Malaysia, while someone in Australia gets $20 an hour ($160 a day). But Australia is a pretty wealthy country founded on the back of endless resources.

I guess to tie it back to the original comment, which we've departed from, will there be a backlash from supporters in Asian countries on the super league, will they even care that its been taken away from its local most dedicated fans in the UK, Spain, Italy? I don't see people here getting that worked up about it, when I don't think they relate to the whole 'working class' vs 'wealthy class' thing, because they aspire to be the wealthy. There's 270m ppl in Indonesia, why haven't any of them risen up against the wealthy, there's 2b ppl in China and India. They could easily revolt. It's almost at the level, where you see famine in Africa, and its like yeah that's sad, but life goes on. Anyways as an Australian it drains me.

I was saying Man U don't really want to play the non top 6 teams in the prem (the other 14 clubs (twice)), and they want more super league, and less champions league/prem. I feel like maybe they'll come back to the prem if the financial incentive is big enough, so they'll probably ask for a bigger slice of the pie.

Also its funny - remember when we laughed that no one would go to the Chinese Super League, some players went anyway despite it being a negative for international team selection.
