Champions League revamp

I mean Burnley played in the Europa League a few years back mate.

So I wouldn't say they don't have genuine ambition.

And also got new owners 4 months ago.
Yes, they had a glorious one-off season. The point I am making is that that is the exception but not the rule for them. Their owners' main priority is to survive in the PL, and if they can have a good season, all the better. Could they build in the future? That may be the dream. I just don't believe they will vote the way they do tomorrow for the same reasons - or even the same way - as Everton or Leicester will.

indeed - how many years have you heard them banging on about the "establishment clubs" wanting to pull up the bridge behind them

Hypocrisy in its purest form

I actually have more sympathy for them than the rest.

From their perspective, it's pull up the bridge or get left on the other side at the first sign of weakness. They already know that Liverpool, United and Arsenal want them and their nouveau riche behinds gone.

I'd agree - but I think you will get away with one round of TV deals before that kicks in, which is all a Parrish or Brady will consider

I thinkI heard Jay Mckenna make the point, the deal is going down even if they stay. Everyone knows they've got no long term commitment to the PL. It's not going to end with a midweek competition. The broadcasters are going to look at those clubs and know they can't trust them and all logic says they start sticking a 2nd string here.

The deal is going down. Even without all this super league stuff it was going down. There's short termism from those clubs, but give the blunt way they have announced this, and the wide spread condemnation I think everyone can see whats happening and what has to happen.

I don't know if you saw Parish's interview on MNF. It was really interesting. Essentially said they will try and talk them round to stay. When asked about how many clubs it would need to kick them out (seems to be some debate whether 14 or 15) he was quite clear (in tone as much as words)if they walk away then of course they can and will be kicked out. That was what his whole body language said.

If I was reading the mood, I'd say they will resolve to speak to those clubs again, and essentially ask them to reconsider, but if they don't they will be gone.

I personally think it's the wrong approach but I do understand it. I have to say, talking them round to stay, as a group of 6 would be the worst outcome in all of this.

THey will turn up every week and play a second string of players cos the bigger money is in winning the ESL. They also will not need to qualify for anything. It is totally un-tenable.

The amount of money they will be earning they can just have two squads of very good players. One for each league.
Their vanity knows no bounds, Premier League and ESL champions is what they will go after.

The Prem holds all the cards regardless. If they're not allowed to kick them out then they simply don't take their midweek unsanctioned games into account when arranging fixtures. Very quickly the clubs involved won't be able to fulfill their fixtures one way or another.
I think if we end up with the outcome of SL and teams retained in PL then you will see two squads and probably even two managers per team.

There is no way Guardiola for example would spend Mon & Tue getting team ready for AC Milan away on Weds, fly back early hours and back in for training Thurs and Fri for Villa at home, Sunday off then back in to prep for Madrid on Weds......and on and on all season.

I think it has been a good day, RS been shown up for the rats that they are, but that’s all it will be. There won’t be a super league, it just doesn’t add up. Quite literally, they don’t even have enough clubs in it yet, scrounging round for numbers, it is embarrassing lol

In light of recent events surrounding the introduction of the European Super League, Grimsby Town Football Club will be running a shirt amnesty for those who hold shirts for the English clubs involved.

If you hold a shirt from the following clubs that are no older than three seasons old, Grimsby Town Football Club are giving you the opportunity to surrender these and receive a 2020/21 replica Grimsby Town shirt of your choice

You can see why PSG have pulled out.

What is fascinating is if City break it.

I think City and Chelsea can probably be pulled back. In honesty I really couldn't care less about them as they offer nothing. If you culd pull City and Chelsea back, by promising to ease some regulations there's a good case to say the PL/CL is as strong an offering as the super league.

The fact is if those 6 have gone, you don't need to spend as much money on players and wages to compete, therefore a reduced TV deal won't be quite as detrimental as it would have been.

The fact that it’s designed for elite clubs and Spurs are amongst it makes a mockery of the whole thing for me.
