Champions League revamp

If you hand out a punishment that is so severe they might as well leave you’re effectively forcing them to move away as well which hurts everyone.

either you expel or you punish so that it’s not seen as a death sentence but enough to hurt for a year or two.

The way around it is you say you need a UEFA license for up to 5 years. So essentially they have 5 years out.

That’s my stance, these mega clubs are now bigger than the league itself. Premier league without them gets less advertising and a lot less interest from overseas fans. It will be hugely damaging to the brand if they all bugger off and I don’t believe for one second it would ever get back to the level it’s currently at so long as the six most famous clubs in the league play elsewhere. ”English champions” won’t mean much anymore.
If they are not thrown out on their ear now they will be back in 2 years time with the same proposals
They have to be told for once and for all
#enough is enough

the PL will be unwatchable if they let 6 teams have a 350m head start every season.
it is dead anyway if they go ahead with it and dont kick them out.

What's another £350m?

They already have a massive head start mate.

Compare Man City etc's wealth to the bottom 10 of the league.

Money talks mate.

Dream world to think they'll expel the biggest 6 - The Premier League aren't the bastions of integrity.

Costa Coffee come into town.

All the local independents were up in arms.

Locals swore blind they'd boycott it. They'd only buy coffee and cake from the independents.

2 years on, 75% of the independents have gone, and Costa Coffee is the most popular on the highstreet.

The thing is though, people have a very different relationship to football than coffee don't they? If Everton were a coffee shop, we would have jibbed it off years ago.

Amazed people really think the Premier League will expel Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea.
I seriously doubt it also, but you're forgetting there are 14 other clubs which bring in hundreds of millions of pounds for the Premier League.

If the 14 teams band together then there is no Premier League. These 14 teams can demand rule changes, can demand the league hold the 6 clubs accountable to the Premier League's own rulebook.

If the 6 clubs persist with their plans, and the Premier League is only half-hearted in its punishment towards them and it leads to them staying into the division and dominating it due to their massively increased wealth, then the 14 other clubs will need to take it into their own hands.

As Steve Parish hinted at, the 14 clubs could decide that they no longer want to play in the Premier League, and essentially force a new league to be created for them and have the Premier League banished.

I think if and when the 6 clubs refuse to back down, it gives huge power to those left behind to demand change.

That's actually my point though - you're asking UEFA to bin off their primary competition, the Premier League to massively devalue their own competition and destroy the prospects of every other club in the footballing pyramid forevermore.

It gets to the point where the long term loss to these institutions is so severe in letting it happen that any short term financial loss becomes relatively inconsequential.

Not only that, for the Premier League/UEFA to bend over now, they'd have to deal with governments being against it and about 90% minimum of fans. You're right there'll be no boycott, but there certainly will be opposition.

I can't see a route ahead for it to go ahead. If it does, it'll certainly be without their participation in the league IMO.

That still gives City chance to get into Europe if they're allowed to carry out their fixtures.
True, then the option is to wait until the seasons finished and decide. But the calls for 100 points are excessive as then 3 of them get relegated and 3 don't. So you either relegate them all, expel them all, or deduct points that still gives them a chance of survival but the point decision has to be equal for them all. Either way there's going to be lots of legal battles and it won't be a quick process thats decided today.

Even if they don’t get punished at all for this, they’ve all stained themselves for eternity. There’s no way back from that. The reputational loss is a massive punishment before we get to anything else. No longer can Carragher and Neville talk about United and Liverpool as the greatest clubs in England with heritage and history who built the game. Not any more, they were willing to sell it all for a few quid. Never let it be forgotten no matter what happens. They will always and forever be scab clubs not fit for the league.

And those 14 clubs bring in less than the 6.

I don’t think they will much choice

it will undermine the EPL and seal off any chance of the other 14 clubs to compete.

if they don’t then those clubs have essentially signed there own death warrant

One of the many reasons I'm glad I don't work in an office any more. The corporate psychobabble used to drive me mental.

I even drew up a 'Corporate Buzzword Generator' on my computer that had 3 columns with 10 words in each. You rolled a dice 3 times and it created a buzzword/phrase and you'd have to try and drop it into the next team meeting.

"So, any news on how our 'Community Focus Project' is coming along, Dave?"
The Irish rugby players done this at a World Cup for interviews
Brian O Driscoll has to use the word tomato in the interview
He did it too
