Champions League revamp

Amazed people really think the Premier League will expel Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea.
They won’t need to, but they 100% need to start the wheels in motion to do exactly that.

When you’re playing poker and you’re holding a weak hand, but you know the other person has a weak hand too, you have to move all in when they try to bluff you, or you get re-bluffed.

Dodgy poker metaphors aside, threatening to kick them out (and meaning it) is the only way this gets turned around.

If this went ahead, the logical conclusion I come to is the Premier League has no other choice but to do that.

The alternative is UEFA bowing out, binning the Champions League, every other club accepting a permanent £300m a year deficit to other clubs with no means of redress. It's unimaginable.

Would you carry on watching/following football if it happened? I wouldn't. What's the point in Everton (or any other club in the pyramid) existing if they can't possibly win anything ever again?

However what is the consequences if they ignore and go ahead with SL?

This is why I think they have everyone by the short and curlies and why I think the other 14 clubs and the rest of the football league need to accumulate and look at an alternative football system ourselves. It won’t happen mind but I think this is the only way this can happen.

They'll threaten it, but will never follow through.

The clubs know it.

If they don’t then all fans need to boycott games against these clubs until they are punished. Leave the grounds empty, don’t watch them on telly. We have to take matters into our own hands. I for one will not be attending a single fixture against the scab cowboys for the rest of my life.

"Young people are too ditzy to pay attention for 90 minutes" is cover for dividing the game into quarters and introducing 'time-outs' so that as in American sport the ads can run four times longer than the game does.
Exactly this. My first thoughts when I read that nobheads comments.

If you’re the Premier League, you’ve got a really good opportunity to lay down the gauntlet without damaging your product by simply banning them from any cup competitions for a couple of seasons.

Theh can focus on the league, but won’t reap any rewards, whilst keeping their competition... competitive.

Not a chance they banish the clubs.

What would that do? It fixes nothing.

They should be immediately relegated to the conference if they try to crawl back. They won’t be arsed about a points deduction or transfer ban for a season, that does absolutely nothing. This is an attempted coup on the game of football. An actual criminal act, the punishments have to be as severe as possible.
but if you kick them out you end up with them being in a Super League on their own anyway?

15pts keeps City in 3rd.

Far too leniant to clubs that, usually, have all the points in the first place.
It's got to be enough for them all to be out of the European places at least. Which would be 34 points currently. Arsenal and spurs in relegation places. Liverpool in 17th. City would be 7th still.

They need europe to sustain themselves.

I’m just not seeing what a compromise could look like. Infantino is right, you can’t be half in and half out.

I think that as well, but the six have already lost the PR battle big time, and whatever about hard-nosed billionaires, that's half the battle whether they like it or not.

It will have to be handled with kid gloves though, and inevitably that will lead to them getting at least something of what they want.

I can't forsee at all these clubs returning to the table as shamed entities, with points deductions and transfer bans, with their tail between their legs, forever in apologetic mode.

They'll compromise, as will UEFA, the PL, and the other leagues, and some fudged solution will emerge that the football finance experts can spend ages mulling over.
