Champions League revamp

I can't see it happening yet, but if anyone drops out of the new league then the whole thing is finished, they'll find it very difficult to add any additional top teams to it if they lose one of their founder members already. It's already unworkable in it's current 12 team format if they're also banned from all other competitions, there wouldn't be enough games to play to maintain the investment required and supporters would look elsewhere for regular football. The entire football world just needs to be strong enough to stick together against it (and governments need to continue to scare these owners with the possibility the clubs will be put into fan ownership).

I think City and Chelsea have played a blinder here if they drop out because moneywise it doesn't affect them and football wise they have more to play than RS, United, Arsenal and Spurs.

Respect and trust for the clubs are flung out the window though. Surely there must be some punishment even if it collpases?

i don't think it's likely it "collapses" but a renegotiation between the 12, UEFA, FIFA and Domestic leagues seems the most like route out of this not happening. Everyone saving a little face, but damage done to this owners will be irreversible.

Of course he is. He has already agreed the UEFA CL "reform" from the perspective of the superclubs and has effectively executed a reverse takeover of UEFA by his appointment yesterday to the ExCo. This will now be the starting point for UEFA concessions with Killer Kalle the "honest broker" when the inevitable "compromise" is brokered. He's almost hiding in plain sight. He is as devious in the boardroom as he was in the box. And I reckon he gets Klippety too, now that Bayern is a "moral high ground" destination for the "principled" Klopp.
Was it he? Or another Bayern director who wen to jail for corruption? I think it may have been Uni Hoennes who went down for corruption.
So just got to hope that KHR is the lesser of two evils.

I genuinely wonder if the four (maybe five inc Chelsea) have walked straight into a trap here

I just don't see punishment being meted out for the six clubs, unless they refuse to budge. In which case expulsion is the only viable option, and that is the nuclear option for both sides.

It's certainly gone far further than I thought it would but I see still a compromise as the likeliest scenario emerging.

It will only take one club to buckle and the others will fall over themselves to follow suit.

The best thing for us is that this whole concept is shut down and put to bed for the foreseeable future but I don't see this heralding the beginning of a new egalitarian age in football.
