Perez is apparently going to speak soon, but some of the rumours are that they aren't stopping it yet.

Probably not the best way to think about it.

My guess would be that their sincere preference was to extract concessions of similar value and back down. But I also don't think that they made the move without being willing to follow through if it came to it.

I do think that they've miscalculated badly re: the government, and perhaps the degree to which they've incurred the supporters' ire. It will be interesting to see if the outrage is sustained, which has the potential to spur real reform or meaningful punishments.
I also wonder if the sustainability of their vast player wage bills has spurred this on and what the repercussions will be on them if it doesn't go through.
 

This wasn't a rash ruse thought up over the weekend. This was a calculated long term plan to diminish the value of the entire football pyramid and it's 100+ year old history.
I would like to think it would have something to do with the fear of being left behind but I concede I'm probably looking at this through romantic eyes after this fan won victorious day .
