Champions League revamp

I posted the other day that these 12 clubs need to die so that the rest of us can live. The clubs withdrawing from the SL is the worst possible outcome for Everton, and the entire football pyramid across the three different countries, sadly.

They will continue to plot their escape from domestic competition, they will continue to outspend everyone and stack the deck in their favour, they will continue to drive the history and tradition of football into the mud, they will attempt to renegotiate their own TV contracts, they will eventually leave the domestic league by their own choice once they have a more solid foundation.

These clubs had to be allowed to go extinct, not because they signed up to some farcical league, but because they have already destroyed the ones they are apart of. The breaking of the transfer market, the consolidation of power, the untold levels of greed. Those are the true crimes they are guilty of, and unfortunately the opportunity for a great reset for football has been lost and we must now all wait for the inevitable day when they try all this again.

The cynic in me wonders if this has been orchestrated so that those involved can squeeze more money from the league/champions league and that they were never really going to go through with it.

Probably not the best way to think about it.

My guess would be that their sincere preference was to extract concessions of similar value and back down. But I also don't think that they made the move without being willing to follow through if it came to it.

I do think that they've miscalculated badly re: the government, and perhaps the degree to which they've incurred the supporters' ire. It will be interesting to see if the outrage is sustained, which has the potential to spur real reform or meaningful punishments.

I'm torn here . They should be punished but they really have played well this season and although they acted rashly , their fans were totally against this ( far more than both of the red fans ) and they were the first officially to break ranks.
However , they did follow where the others were going without a whimper . Maybe a ban next season would be ideal .
Throw the book at the other 4 who are crapping themselves right now . Maybe not Spurs . They are punished enough by everyone just laughing at the inclusion at the start .

This wasn't a rash ruse thought up over the weekend. This was a calculated long term plan to diminish the value of the entire football pyramid and it's 100+ year old history.
