Champions League revamp

Anyone thinking this is over and Football fans won are delusional.
This was the start and given slight less outrage it would have gone ahead. Give it 2-6 months and this will be back, changed slightly but water tight.
Unless the 6 are punished and severely which they won’t be. Your just kicking the can down the road
The battle may be won but the war far from over
This is exactly what Simon Jordan was saying on TS. Basically this was the "opening salvo", these clubs have tried to push through the most metal of plans which is the most beneficial to them, everyone was always going to be disgusted by it, so now they'll water it down to something more palpable and try again in the near future. In the hope that some fans will say "well, it's not AS bad as before....."

Good stuff from Parish.

Great stuff .. think he’s been reading my comments.. jokes aside that is the outcome here as long as the 14 owners and Fifa have the will to keep up the fight back. No punishment required.. removal of special powers is punishment enough.

I am absolutely flabbergasted that the very teams who gain the most financially out of European football are the ones pushing this for more. It really is sickening.

All I did was set out how the legal approach would take shape, having had to do that at legally-based Tribunals over a number of years, working with and quoting Acts of Parliament and any amending Regulations, down to the construction placed upon individual words.

That's all...
In later posts, on this thread, you had a far less dismissive tone to other posters. You've conceded it's not as clear cut as you initially made it out to be to me. And it isn't clear cut. Far from it.

This.
Alisher and Farhad, to all intents and purposes we have no debt given your joint benevolence. Go all out and sink all six of these MF’s. Go a step further and target them aggressively, who knows how financially vulnerable they are. Exploit it. They sure would.
Someone posted a list of the amount of debt the dirty dozen have accumulated
They won’t be spending money this year
Transfer bans , points deductions , European bans and then let Usmanov blow them out of the water in the summer transfer market
300-400 m spend coming up
What’s Uefa and the PL going to do
We will just say it’s debt like the rest of the dirty dozen

This narrative that 'it was all the owners' is just designed to stop any sanctions against these clubs 'because it's not the fans fault'.

The owners are part of the club, they're not separate. If you don't want to be at the mercy of these types of owners then you should reject their money and protest against huge salaries and ridiculous transfer fees.
The fans don't complain when world record fees are being exchanged for goalkeepers and centre backs. (n)

Are you a solicitor ?

There was no start date for this new competition, for there to be any contravention you’d have to say “it was going to be played during this season of the PL so breaks our rules”. They can’t say that because a start date was never agreed. You can’t punish an organisation over a future hypothetical rule breach because you’ve no idea if the Prem would even still be in existence. The head of the thing was on record saying it would start once agreement was reached with the governing bodies.

Aside from this, there is case law which backs up the idea that such penalties in an attempt to discourage new competitions would be seen as anti competitive. The European courts have upheld challenges against other sporting organisations who have tried to prevent the start up of new competitions.

I'm absolutely not a lawyer and tax is my area, but it looks pretty vague to me in law. I don't think it's clear cut at all because a competition could be deemed to commence on the date binding contracts are signed. I don't think it would be when the first matches take place anyway, it would be long before that. It would be decided in a court if it got that far, but I don't think that's going to happen.

If they are punished (which I doubt tbh) then it is more likely to be for bringing the game into disrepute.

Clearly the Super League remarks show that this isn't over, they'll come back eventually with a different format that still massively rewards the top teams but isn't an entirely closed shop, the pressure needs to be kept up on them and we need to see major changes which prevent a break away league from forming without the consent of the fans. The government will find it difficult to say this type of thing can't be created, but they can certainly put barriers in place which stops these owners from making decisions alone.

Absolutely despicable.

It’s very clear to see that the real winners are UEFA, who’ve now conveniently got funding for their own league.

Patting city in the back for “returning”, having abandoned them is not something worth commending.
But the far cats club rolls on, with more tempo than ever, and for now, UEFA has bent over and let them play.

But next time? Oh they’ve learned their lessons , there will be a next time, but a lot more rehearsed.
