Champions League revamp

The current state of football sure does feel similar to the state of this country in general. Makes me wonder whether it can even be thought of as escapism anymore.

Might take up woodworking or something like that instead.
Could be right, woodworking no good for me, the last time I tried it I made a poker.

Honestly Sunday to Tuesday was the most excited I've felt about football for a long time.

I thought one way or another we'd have a more competitive Premier League.

It just feels back to the same old same old now. Unless they are punished for trying to take over football they've won.

Other Clubs might survive in the short term but eventually they'll be eaten up or have to amalgamate with rivals to become North West Athletic or Midlands Warriors. And still be fodder.

I can’t see any short term punishments above a few pitiful fines. What I’m hoping is that it leads to a longer term reformat of the game, perhaps a public sector governing body regulating it in the UK. We could at least hope for a bit more of a level playing field.

This question needs to be asked to UEFA but we don't have any powerhouse media now, too busy protecting the big 6

So UEFA paid the clubs not to leave? Pathetic. Some of them clubs aren’t even in the Champions League or Europe at all and they get hand outs? This is corrupt as anything.

Where’s the uproar from Gary Neville and Sky now?

Basically because greed is good. Just don't be too obvious. We live to fight another day.

Premier League & EFL just need to step away from Sky, open up their own broadcasting & make a hell of a lot more money, and distribute proportionally - not only giving more money but more coverage for the lower leagues.

Doing this essentially gives the Premier League far more power than UEFA has (which we can see is already evident from the other EU Clubs), and hey if we wanted to we could even start a new European Competition (a fair one) that brings in far more money than the Champions League.

Watch it before you down rep me. Paul talking complete sense. Hopefully more Liverpool fans feel this way about their owners and the actions they've taken here.

"...goes without saying but should be said. That the project put forward was never going to stand without the support of the fans..."

Well clearly it was because should signed up to it without consulting the fans.

There has to be meaningful, powerful sanctions on all 12 clubs or this undoubtedly happens again - they have only said it's suspended, not ripped to pieces and dead.

All the talk of punishing fans and players if the clubs are punished is bollocks as well, I feel sorry for them but you can't disassociate them from the club's, so they have to take whatever is coming.

They should be annexed to the bottom of the pyramid or dissolved, which is exactly what would have happened if it were Everton, Leeds, Leicester, wham, wolves and Villa who had tried this.

If there's no appetite for that, then long bans from Europe, large points deductions, long transfer bans, behind closed doors matches in all comps when restrictions lift (keep hitting them in their pockets) for a few seasons - that reduces the value of the "asset" and forces these corrupt owners out.

A little fine and a don't do it again you naughty boys, fixes nothing in this whole sorry mess
UEFA should give them a 5 year ban from European competition and reset all their coefficients to 0.

thats never happening, the sleeked 6 would want the lions share.

Yup. Highlights of my season to date:

1. Three days of seeing images of James Rodriguez wandering around Liverpool late at night - "oh my God, is he actually joining us?!!?!"
2. Three days of watching Karl-Heinz Rummenigge executing a reverse coup on UEFA to keep the old boys club in complete power - and watching heads fall off as people fell for the distraction while UEFA got their appalling "reformed" CL through on the quiet. With more "compromise" to come.

Gonna be a damp squid isn’t it. All bluster but soon back to normal and the scab 6 will get stuff through by stealth. We’ll all piss the bed as usual

As these six clubs want to break away - yet still want to compete in the premier league and Europe.
For each of the next 23 seasons let them have their own separate criteria for European qualification within the league.
they can have 1 CL place and maybe even 1 Europa league place. 1 club from this six should also be relegated.
