Champions League revamp

Out of interest, I know, unsurprisingly, there's a rule to get Liverpool in regardless of league position, but how does that work? How long do these coefficient points last for? Say they won the UCL and didn't qualify through league position for 3 years, when would these points wear off?

I think it's a five-year rolling average. So it would take a bit more than three years of bottom-half finishes to do the trick.

Spot on - self interest will always rise to the absolute top.

The 20 equal vote model is broken & it is a blocker not an equity tool. I'm not proposing a solution, but the very idea that they wont be punished underpins this challange

It's ironic really, because ultimately, whilst we chastise the 6 sides who broke away, amongst ourselves are smaller, less divisive teams who are effectively wanting the same... more money.

The fear of losing their money spinning games against the bigger teams, and losing the TV revenue is enough to make them roll over.

What is going on with the game we love. Sacrifice success, for existence and money.

The ESL was never going ahead; the clubs have what they want, which is the UEFA CL revamp and the additional cash that comes with it.

They'll face no sanctions because - as many have pointed out - they feel reliant on these 6 teams to keep their revenue streams up.

For the game to return to anything resembling that which many are pining for, a huge chunk of the cash - and with it the big, shiny, exciting transfers - has to be taken out of it. Bin Sky and make it free-to-air again, hugely promote grass roots football and prioritise academies bringing through first team-ready talent. It would likely be a nightmare to watch for a few years but it's the only way IMO.

UEFA should give them a 5 year ban from European competition and reset all their coefficients to 0.
Totally agree, but that's too light and they and the pl shouldn't stop there.

I cannot believe the 14 pl teams don't remove their vote/status after this coup attempt.

If they don5e want to relegate them, take their power away and make them have to follow the 14 clubs who had nothing to do with this disgrace, on all future decisions - they gave up any rights to a say in anything with their failed coup.

Hope the 14 clubs and the pl see sense and impose serious sanctions.

uefa is as bad as these clubs if nothing is done, they all deserve each other in the shithouse.

Yeah it's grim mate to be honest. It was the same with Null and void and restart, from top of the league to bottom of the league every club looked after themselves and not the greater good.

Sadly it will be same here, there will be no bans, no point deductions, no removal of the 6 off the TV and no European ban from UEFA

UEFA, the 14 (or at least 10 of them) , the PL and the broadcasters will all put their required profits ahead of a moral or a long term view for the greater good.

Uefa is set to be hit with a concerted campaign to drop its plan for two Champions League places awarded on the basis of historical performances in Europe.
The collapse of the Super League has led to a power shift away from Europe’s elite clubs and now the European Leagues and figures in the European Club Association — which is now without any representatives from the 12 clubs who joined the Super League — are poised to launch an effort to change the access system planned for 2024.
