Champions League revamp

They absolutely should be punished but they probably won’t be.

I would go with large points deductions. The only way to hit the owners hard is to hit them in the pocket. No European football next season, less PL prize money and impacted share prices for those on the stock market seems reasonable.

They are? So be it. My statement stands.

Yeah...

This is about a lot more than petty tribalism.

The statement isn't exclusive about Liverpool and their fans, hence the rest of it;

The ‘future of football’ came crashing down in 48 hours because of the solidarity and outcry of ‘legacy’ fans across the country. This debacle must be a catalyst for real change, not an exercise in damage limitation.

Our owners have thrown everyone under the bus, supporters, manager, players and staff, and humiliated themselves through sheer greed and arrogance.

The hypocrisy of the Premier League and broadcasters has also been noted. They have never considered the fans in their own gold rush and have treated us with thinly disguised contempt over the years.

We need a fundamental change in football governance, one that is fair for the whole football pyramid, not just the rapacious elite. We need a model that promises equitable distribution of the vast amounts of money involved in the beautiful game, our game.

I want creative punishments for the teams that transgressed. Instead of docking then points every one of 14 teams should select one of their players that will be required by the sky 6 to field in their starting lineup. There would be no greater repercussion for Man city than having iwobi start on the right wing against PSG , definitely dissuade them from further treachery.
Mate the ESL wasn't that bad surely something else can be done?!

These paragraphs in close proximity led me to think they were talking just about themselves.

So just three left standing which includes Real Madrid. Anyone else getting worried the rehabilitated loveable RS will get to take their place in the Champions League semi final as RM get chucked out?

Oh good, I was afraid they would just say "whoops, our bad". Now it appears the ESL is sticking in its heels and insisting it will go ahead and clubs are bound in blood to it. That may at least force the hand of some legislature if not the FA or some other league entity.

And if Uefa and Fifa dont come down on them and let them rebuild to do it again in 2 years? Both deserve to be dissolved. People are fundamentally stupid and will just forget about it in a short time, the only chance to stop it is for ESL to insist its a player and keep reminding them, leading to something like the UK government passing a law requiring 51% supporter vote for clubs to join a new competition.

Big Sam talking Sense, the worlds gone mad

Big Sam may be a cynic and ghoul as a football coach and a Neanderthal as a tactician but he is a shrewd and perceptive man with a droll wit. If you had an alien come to Earth who needed an accurate one-hour explanation of how the place works and how people act and think you could do a lot worse than Big Sam as someone to sit down with the little green fella.

Maybe read it?

While point 3 provides immediate protection, the way to provide long-term protection for English clubs is by adopting the German 50+1 rule on supporter ownership of clubs.

Between 2000 and 2020, we saw huge growth in supporter ownership of clubs in the UK through the establishment of Supporters Direct, a body set up to promote democratically-controlled, not-for-profit supporters’ trusts. We now need to build on those foundations.

While we can’t move to a German model overnight, we call on the Government and the game’s authorities to adopt it as the long-term direction and create a legislative framework to support it. Where clubs shares are being sold, either by shareholders or through new share issues, the legislation should require vendors to make shares available on a first refusal basis to recognised, democratically-controlled supporters’ trusts. This rule would apply until trusts own 51% of club shares. The effect would mean that any prospective owner would need the consent of the supporters.

The Government should consider other tax and financial incentives to help trusts build up the shareholding.

The fans don’t need to ‘own’ a club. They just need sufficient representation on the boards of clubs, and that could be achieved through legislation similar to workers on boards in Germany ......

I think even a supporter vote is flawed.

Didnt Destination Kirkby pass a supporter vote?

Oh it certainly is flawed, but at least much less likely to go through. It would at least force the greedy foreign billionaires to try and grovel to their fans a bit to convince them. I figure that in order for a legislature to pass something through that can legally stick and is popular with the people, you probably have to do something along those lines and imitate some portion of the german system. I dont trust the FA or UEFA/FIFA will do anything meaningful.
