Champions League revamp

Oh it certainly is flawed, but at least much less likely to go through. It would at least force the greedy foreign billionaires to try and grovel to their fans a bit to convince them. I figure that in order for a legislature to pass something through that can legally stick and is popular with the people, you probably have to do something along those lines and imitate some portion of the german system. I dont trust the FA or UEFA/FIFA will do anything meaningful.
Well yeah, I was just being a bit silly.

We need something in place, what it is I'm not sure.

The fans still have a voice, as was shown the last few days.

But sadly in the past, things like Cardiff were allowed to happen.

Something needs doing.

Load of crap being spoken in that interview.

Have sympathy for Chelsea? Koff!!!

The other fella saying what about the fans it’s not their fault? When clubs get deducted points for going into admin it’s not the fans fault either. As a club if you break rules you get punished.

That Kaveh then saying “You don’t really want to start messing around with the points now” Why the frig not?!?!
Big six mate, privileged, Sky darlings.

John.. Shut up you divvie..

Never their fault.

Like I said earlier in this thread. Fans and players of these teams deserve their share of the blame for their owners making this decision.

The supporters have a culture of entitlement to success and have created an atmosphere where those billionaires thought this would be accepted by the majority of their support.

I'm convinced the only reason it didn't go through was because the outrage from supporters of clubs down the pyramid being adopted by the media men for those teams.

If Gary Neville said he was looking forward to it because he could do so safely without breaking bridges with everyone in the pyramid then he would have.

Big Sam may be a cynic and ghoul as a football coach and a Neanderthal as a tactician but he is a shrewd and perceptive man with a droll wit. If you had an alien come to Earth who needed an accurate one-hour explanation of how the place works and how people act and think you could do a lot worse than Big Sam as someone to sit down with the little green fella.
What did Big Sam say? linked?

Yeah...

This is about a lot more than petty tribalism.

The statement isn't exclusive about Liverpool and their fans, hence the rest of it;

The ‘future of football’ came crashing down in 48 hours because of the solidarity and outcry of ‘legacy’ fans across the country. This debacle must be a catalyst for real change, not an exercise in damage limitation.

Our owners have thrown everyone under the bus, supporters, manager, players and staff, and humiliated themselves through sheer greed and arrogance.

The hypocrisy of the Premier League and broadcasters has also been noted. They have never considered the fans in their own gold rush and have treated us with thinly disguised contempt over the years.

We need a fundamental change in football governance, one that is fair for the whole football pyramid, not just the rapacious elite. We need a model that promises equitable distribution of the vast amounts of money involved in the beautiful game, our game.
Fundamental change at the top has been needed for as long as I can remember.

If Sepp Blatter was still about, something like this would have sneaked through the door no problem.

All this 'don't punish the fans' has got me thinking why do that particular group of fans deserve to be in CL year in, year out over last 20 years more than fans of any other team?

Yes, I get it that the clubs earned the place through performance (forget the debate about equality for now) but a euro ban for example isn't 'punishing the fans' any more than Southampton, Brighton, and yes Everton, fans are 'punished' by not being in that very same competition. You play by the rules and best get a year of euro tours, break the rules or not be the best that year you don't. Why are the fans of the 6 more entitled to euro comps than fans of others (may have answered my own question with that wording).

Long way of saying no fans are entitled to watch their team in EL or CL, so it is not a punishment to them if they are not in it and they just have the 3 domestic competitions that year.

Watch it before you down rep me. Paul talking complete sense. Hopefully more Liverpool fans feel this way about their owners and the actions they've taken here.

"...goes without saying but should be said. That the project put forward was never going to stand without the support of the fans..."

Well clearly it was because should signed up to it without consulting the fans.

I gave up after 9mins
He's doing his best not to show hes not impressed.

He's asking fans to keep up the momentum and push for meaningful change. He's right.
The meaningful change they're pushing for is 50+1 ownership.

What does that do for us?

They aren't getting after UEFA to take away the new rules they made to benefit them are they?

People need to get on board with the idea that nothing these six club fans want is for anyone else's benefit but their own. They don't give a toss about us and they didn't do anything out of some moral prerogative to save the pyramid. They did what they did because they were worried we would boot them out the league.

The fans don’t need to ‘own’ a club. They just need sufficient representation on the boards of clubs, and that could be achieved through legislation similar to workers on boards in Germany ......

Another thing that might help is a look at the 14 V 6 voting model within the PL itself.

I do wonder could you change that to something like a 50/50 model plus agreement with a fan vote (which would need a very tightly regulated panel) instead of the current model, ensuring that within reason any major PL decision are effectively being vetoed by fans one way or anyother. The risk being a further stalemate with no changes

haven't posted in a while but just thought I'd rant a bit about this ESL and LFC.
I listened to Henry's mealy mouthed apology this morning and noticed that not once did he apologize to the wider football world or to the other clubs and fans that he was shafting.

I moved to Boston 13 years ago and made a concerted effort to get in to American sports. The Red Sox story was quite remarkable. A few years earlier they had considered flattening Fenway and moving to the burbs, but Henry took over, saw its value, invested and won the club a hand full of titles for the first time in generations. Fenway reminded me of Goodison, you can sense the ghosts of players and fans past in the place. It's pretty special. I saw the Sox steel home to beat the Yankees there in a night game. It was great.

Then, as blue bill scavenged around for investment, FSG turned their sights on that lot across the park. I knew henry would win them a title. To rub salt in the wound, his first game as boss would be at Goodison. I wish the yak could have shoulder barged him in to oblivion. Then they put up Shankley gates outside Fenway and Liverpool started coming every Summer. Their fan base was growing fast.
Why couldn't FSG just have invested in Everton?
Well thank you Bill for waiting for the right buyer. And thank god FSG have nothing to do with Everton.
They have intentionally blighted parts of Anfield for profit.
They tried to copyright the name 'Liverpool' and the liver bird.
They stood behind Suares with t-shirts.
They started project big picture last season and no one said a thing
and this year they tried to steal football.

As Evertonians, we've stood with their club (and rightly so) in the fight for justice for the 96 and boycotting the sun, and in response they didn't give a second thought what effect their actions would have on their neighbors. They knew well about BMD and the steps we're making. It was just added incentive to pull up the ladder.

And I don't want to hear a thing about how hard it must have been for Klopp or Henderson. Klopp could have said what Guardiola did but he didn't. Henderson could have voiced opposition to this when Richarlison did, but he didn't.
And I don't want to hear a thing about fans of the 6 clubs saving football. OK Chelsea fans, where's the protest to get Abramovic out??

There was always a fierce rivalry between our club and LFC but a weird bickering brothers thing also going on. Not for me any more.
They are a vile club, rotton.

UEFA should ban all 12 from europe for a few seasons and if this coefficient wild card thing does happen, all 12 should be banned from qualifying that way for 10 years. The 3 respective leagues should deduct points. And don't give me this 'fans suffer' nonsense. All these fans have had amazing champions league nights on the back of their wealthy greedy owners. It's payback time.

What's more likely to happen is that they will be fined which won't bother them in the slightest and there will be a sub committee set up to select a committee to oversee an investigation in to the possibility of establishing an oversight committee, in other words, nothing.

I'm so proud of how Everton handled this. We can be a bit of a mess on the pitch but they generally do an excellent job deciphering the difference between right and wrong off it.
