Champions League revamp

DAZN are taking over boxing now with insane contracts. Only a matter of time before football ends up on that platform, you cant fight this kind of bottomless money.

One of the nice things about a democratic society is that you can fight that kind of money - if and only if people care enough.

If the issue is one that the people really will throw the bums out over, you can legislate both to stop the money and to make it structurally really, really hard to undo your legislative work.

The problem is that the list of things people are informed enough about, and care enough about, to make the democratic process work seems to be rather short, and people as a whole seem to both tolerant of slow, patient unwinding of that work because their focus and attention spans are limited.

That is absolute crazy town talk from Perez, people are not interested in the CL until the knockout rounds so let's drag out the mini league stage to 18 games!

All this they can't keep on losing money blah blah blah then sort your own house out! An income of over 600 million euros and yet they claim to be impoverished, they are a football club for pete's sake. 600 million to what pay the wages of 200 people. It's a joke. All the players in that league will expect massive pay rises so they'll still end up with the same result. Cap wages and agents fees instead.

The consequences of a super league that isn't based on merit is just dire and you can tell by his comments that they're just waiting for a punishment to be handed down that makes their fans agree to it. For instance what happens if at the business end of the season say utd who are 5th in the league have a game against say Norwich on the final weekend and a game mid week in the super league. The PL game might be worth 2/4 million in league placement to utd but with a guaranteed place in the SL it's not a 300 million pound game to them. Meanwhile a chance to be in the final of that competition might be worth 100 million, so are they going to play the full team on the weekend? Are they flip. So Norwich win that game and stay up but in turn relegate Crystal Palace who played against a team where every last bit of league placement/cash counted. It makes a mockery of the PL as if they are not going for the title it doesn't matter to them - it still matters to everyone else though. If they try it again they need to be booted out for good, they can't keep a foot in both.

Even more madness from Perez

to me it’s delusional ramblings of someone who is crying cos he can’t have all the nice toys.. in spite of only a couple clubs in the world being able to afford them.. and in spite of having being given whatever he wants for the last 20 years. Sounds like a spoilt child the old man eventually said not too.

Maybe .. just maybe more competitive games will come by getting rid of FFP, having more powerful clubs in your local league than three, reducing the ridiculous price of players to be more accessible to all, not hording them in massive squads etc etc... the privilege of a rich clubs who is honestly moaning he can’t have more? Wow!

Laporta knew about this deal when he got elected & had plenty of time to walk away - new management my backside

Not with a deal already signed by Bartomeu, even UEFA acknowledged Joan was clever to sign a clause insisting club members had to decide on participation through assembly vote upon becoming President

3 years they've had this in the pipeline he said, 3 frigging years the pack of runts.

Thought it was longer to be honest.
Tbf these so called clubs have a bigger brand which basically UEFA and our FA have helped developed.

They will believe they deserve the extra money, and this is why it won't go away. Time for us to cut the strings and all go our own way.

Those six clubs are screwed.
They are going to be financially ruined. The binding contract will shaft them.

Whilst we do need to punish them in some way, having them go bankrupt is not sensible. It will make their involvement in the league a necessity.

Hmm, I think the general timing of it stank. Neville/Carra gave it a voice but the anger was there, definitely.

Governance definitely has to change. Ultimately what stopped it this time wasn't Nev/Carra, the fans. It was the threats against the teams and then the players basically putting it out there that they didn't want it. If there's no players, there's no product.
The government threat of legislation is what stopped it.

This is not our problem if they go bankrupt, do we care about this when Lower clubs go bust.

You know if I'm spending to much, I cut back and this is what they should do. Maybe stop spending 80 million on a goal keeper, stop paying out silly wages.

Them going bust is our problem.

The strength of the league is the collective package. If those clubs aren’t in it, the worldwide value declines and our revenue falls.

also, we haven’t heard what the penalty is yet for leaving ESL. It may ruin some of them anyway. Spurs are teetering I think.

That is why the PL is thinking long and hard about punishment. If the revenue falls, it will hit the whole football league. Lower league clubs will be damaged.

I hate what they did, but they are needed.

If they cut back then they won't go bankrupt. Simple maths
