Champions League revamp

All team's owners risk being an ass when the carrot of extra money gets dangled in front of them. I'm in many ways relieved that we weren't approached by the scab league as who knows what would have happened.

Yes but Napoli's president did some nasty stuff with covid regulations this year to try to get some advantages.
They don't deserve attention.

£8 million - £300 million is a pretty extraordinary reported range for the penalty charge.

And it will be decided depending on what interpretation of the contract you take.

My own feeling on this, is there is a massive bill to be paid back. Maybe whoever was funding the initial downpayment had collateral written in, if this doesn't happen you fund us that entire value back. That is the sort of agreement people have.

Running parrallel to this is that you may be able to leave if x,y or z conditions are met. They probably haven't thought to tie down what actually happens to the owed money if it collapses after 2 days, as it's not normally something that crops up.

However the remaining 4 are not just going to pay everyone elses £300m without putting up a very stringent legal fight.

Clearly the £300m issue would have been put in, probably in the small print to stop people leaving. Watch this space.

Two possibilities:

1) They were advised that their actual exposure is far less
2) They determined that writing that check was objectively less bad than the probable consequences of not writing it

I tend to think it's more #1 than #2, but we'll see.
3) their advisors and financiers were s spectacularly inept, which they’ve already admitted. They may not have built in a contingency for this kind of disaster?

edit: or what catcher says

The threat of some sort of catastrophic exit fee would explain some of Perez's insanity over insisting the project isn't dead, too.

Definitely mate.

I said before it even collapsed (All of 3 days ago) that it's likely there will be a core group of signatories to this, who have given the guarentees to partners, and probably signed x,y and z to give them assurance. Fortunately for our teams, it doesn't look like any have done that, and Perez has gone it alone.

Whats happened here is, a stag do has been organised and they've had to put a deposit down on a minibus. The Minibus company has taken the best mans details for none payment. He's taken a tenner deposit from each of the lads on the trip. 1 by 1 they've all pulled out and lost their tenner, however he's no liable for all the costs. There's a debate as to who should pay for those.

Except it's not playing for a tenner, but hundreds of millions.

If UEFA/domestic leagues had any sense they would start slowly stop giving these 12 clubs so much media attention

The less media attention over time = less oversea's bandwagon jumpers.

Start promoting clubs like Everton, Leicester, Villa, Napoli, Sevilla etc and over time maybe the likes of Spurs and Arsenal who dont exactly dominate football will lose influence.
You mean don't spend 25 minutes of a 30 minute preview for an upcoming Everton/Leicester match analyzing a 0-0 Liverpool Utd 3 shot affair from the day before? But how will fans that don't care about them know what happened??

Your #3 is basically my #2.

Definitely mate.

This is basically my #1, except that the stag do is getting streamed, they all anticipate making far more money from the stream than the cost of the bus, and Perez is trying to claim that the parties that withdrew should be responsible not only for the cost of the bus but also for the lost streaming revenue.

Counsel probably told the clubs that they'll likely be on the hook for the bus, but not the stream that never happened.
