Champions League revamp

Fines? Waste of time.
Relegation? Never going to happen, and the other 14 wouldn’t want it anyway.
Points deductions? Most definitely, and you would think the other 14 would want that, surely?

Oh, and all this “it’ll hurt the fans” nonsense. You mean those fans they didn’t give a toss about last Monday?

The word is that City signed a letter of intent and not the actual contract.
If that is the case they may have some wriggle room on the legal front - but
not sure to be honest.

From experience, exactly what you sign, and when, and how you leave and what you cite can make a big difference.

This will likely end up with lawyers arguing in my view.

I'm 100% with our board and Gary Neville on this; there HAVE to be consequences for the ScabSix and they need to be onerous. All this "don't punish the fans/players" BS is doing my head in. This announcement didn't come out of nowhere, nor was it single-handedly engineered by the scab owners. Others at those clubs (possibly at board level?) would have to be involved in order to approve such a massive contractual change. Obviously they had been scheming for quite some time and they would have known full well the devastating impact the ESL would have had on us and all the other non-scab clubs in Europe. Have they apologised to us or is the 'mea culpa' just aimed at their own fans/players?
GNev is correct: if they're not slapped down now they will try to pull this sort of stunt again. I say they should all be deducted a minimum of 25 points, barred from making any further transfers and suspended from European competition for both of the next two seasons. If the players don't like it they can leave. The fans will just have to learn to take the rough with the smooth like all other fans do. The telly clappers might give up on the Merseyside Reds but I couldn't give a toss. After the way they & ManUre have tried to ruin footy twice now they deserve to learn some humility.

I doubt if there will be any meaningful punishment handed out, although there very clearly should be.

But we have to find some way to put the concept completely off the agenda, I'm concerned about an atmosphere of continuing uncertainty and its effects on stadium funding in particular.

In fact, we should probably be complaining to The FA and The Premier League on that specifically. A £500m development compromised by willful breaking of Premier League regulations. We should go to government on it as well.

Whilst we were doing everything by the book and more, to bring to fruition a project that would enhance the appeal of the PL, these six clubs were conniving to make the most monumental investment in our history completely worthless.

Surely no club can plan for anything, let alone a new stadium, whilst this remains even a remote possibility. What does that say about The Premier League, and about football in general? That the top clubs can continue their cartel and pull the plug any time they like? Spurs build their new stadium and get a huge state guaranteed loan, an invite to an illegal breakaway league, and we get two fingers and faux sympathy from Sky Sports?

I hate to say it, but Spurs in particular, have boiled my blood over this. We knew what to expect from the RS and Utd.

I'd imagine Usmanov and Moshiri have the best of legal eagles advising them. I hope for our sake that they'll be spending a lot of time on Evertons behalf in the coming weeks and months.

Anyone fancy a cheap shirt?

There must be severe consequences for those teams. Premeditated attempt to destroy the PL. Fines mean nothing to these teams. Hit them where it hurts - big points deductions.

I'm somewhat hopeful the PL is keeping its powder dry until the season ends. If the PL can come up with a new rule that levies nine-figure fines and banishment from teams signing up for another Super League and everyone signs off on it, making the Syphilitic Six think that's the end of it, THEN the PL can hit the scabs with a nice points deduction for next season.
As for UEFA, I'm not holding my breath.
They are probably speaking with the leagues of the other offending parties in an attempt to agree on a coordinated stance. Not an easy task.

If they introduce a rule saying the intention to join a competition not sanctioned by an official governing body will result in immediate expulsion from the league, that will be good enough for me. The main thing is to avoid this situation reoccurring.

You'll need a lot more than that.

I do partly agree though, they need to change the rule and state that there will be expulsion for any suggestions of a breakaway, even discussions should be reprimanded for me.

But a warning doesn't deter people, they can still gather pace, they can still recruit others, and be more inclusive, they can invite your Ajax's, Anderlecht's and make it more inclusive, and then quickly they've got foundations to really push on.

There needs to be a hefty fine, points deduction/banning from Europe for a season, to really highlight that there will not be anyone getting walked over.

Johnson has a reputation for agreeing with whoever is in the room, and for his opinion being swayed by the last person he spoke to.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he gave Woodward personal backing for the SL, then quickly changed his mind when the news broke and public opinion went the other way.

Fits the classic narcissist profile, as does ample other evidence regarding Boris. These people deserve one another.

So Woodward most likely got axed for delivering a disastrously wrong read on the other players' hands, or for trying to transfer blame for the disastrously wrong read. It's possible that he fell on his own sword, but the Glazers didn't exactly beg him to stay.

It at least makes sense out of the meeting happening at all - Woodward wasn't a fool for taking it, but he was played for one at it.

hopefully, and hopefully very expensive lawyers too

They'll probably settle because of that. There's a pretty good-sized bargaining window resulting from costs and uncertainty over the outcome. Perez is just posturing to set up the resulting windfall, which his club needs.

That won’t work, they just make it like a domestic league and then add cups and stuff and try and stay in the CL
