Champions League revamp

I think a 10 point deduction for next season for each of the 6 teams could lead to an epic season. It would put these sides under huge pressure immediately.I appreciate any title win would come with an asterisk but meh

Would there be an asterisk though?....we're talking about a league where clubs who spend the most money win...City are only winning the league because they outspent all the other teams...should there be an asterisk beside there title win. Chelsea will finish 4th ahead of us, but they spent a fortune more than us.
Liverpool *won the title last season....apart from the asterisk already with that, they also spent a fortune on VVD and Allison to help them get there.

These clubs have all won their trophies due to the money invested into their team by the richer owners. Their fans have benefited from the money of their richer owners.

Thats why the argument from the media now about a points deduction would be punishing fans is BS. Their fans weren't complaining when they were raiding other clubs for their players, and spending more money to insure success. Their fans weren't complaining about the unfair advantage their richer owners money gave them, and the trophies won.

If the actions of these same owners, is now used as an opportunity by the Premier league to even the playing field, I would see no asterisk if Leicester, West Ham or ourselves won the league next season as a result of a points deduction to the Big 6.

The FA should deduct enough points to guarantee three of the six clubs are going to be relegated next season, and let them spend as much as they like to bolster their squads.

Tottenham would probably shrug their shoulders, go down, go bust the following year and be sold to some Saudi sheik in 2023/2024.

Man City and Chelsea would probably throw a lot of money at the transfer market, knowing they could afford to lose it (if they were unlucky and went down) and would probably stay in the premier league.

But the Glaziers, FSG & Kroenke wouldn't want to gamble on losing their own money and will not spend anything probably hoping to bounce back up the year after if they went down.

But during the year where there are only three of the "big" six in the premier league, the remaining 17 premier league teams can change the rules to stop this sort of coup being threatened again, and there won't be a big enough block of clubs with purely financial interests, to veto any votes the "smaller" clubs wanted to push through.

I like that plan.

Thinking about it,
because the owners of those six clubs would have had the chance to spend sufficiently to stay up,
(eg if Arsenal sign, Mbappe, Neymar, and a whole new back four to stay up with Man City and Chelsea),
it will have been those owners who didn't spend enough who would have punished the fans and players.

Win, win.

Thought Rafael Honigstein made a good point the other day in that the Champions League has really been too successful. There's so much money in it compared to other competitions that if you qualify for a few seasons but then miss out, it completely messes up your budgets. That's partly why the guaranteed income of a Super League is so attractive.

A fairer solution would be to properly address the disparity in payments between the CL and Europa League, but as he said, clubs are unlikely to go for that.
