Champions League revamp

I don't understand why UEFA wouldn't have made sure the punishment for leaving was much harsher unless these clubs weren't willing to agree to it, €100m is nothing if they decided to breakaway again and there was no reason from UEFA's point of view not to set the bar massively high (even something like €500m would be lowballing it considering the impact it would cause). I'm not surprised by the immediate punishment but to not put in place something that almost guarantees they can't afford to do this again seems bizarre.

Uefa talk about the 'punishment' being about reconciliation.

Reconciliation is when both parties have wronged each other, not when one has tried to shaft the other and been caught out. Uefa acting like a cheated on spouse promising to try harder now they have their errant other half back.

Can't believe the historic coefficient rule change has been allowed to slip through and still stands after all this. Fact they are also all back in the ECA cabal now as well just shows how desperately uefa want man utd, RS et al in their cash generator tournament regardless of the obvious contempt they have for uefa.

I would imagine a fine that was seen as more “punitive” such as 500 million would be easier to challenge in the courts. Whether 100 million is correct in the context of ”damage” to UEFA and their product if they were to leave is very open to further debate though.

Pathetic but utterly predictable. Just hope the other 14 clubs have already prepared or are at least in the process of preparing another league for life without them, securing tv deals etc ahead of time. These scabs will absolutely do this again and they cannot be allowed to play in the same domestic league as the other clubs.

What do they have to lose here?

Uefa have shown themselves as toothless cowards
Champions League revenue. That is an enormous part of their revenue stream. It makes up a much bigger slice for these 3 sides than it does for the English sides.

There's no alternative for them, the Super League isn't happening. It's a totally mad position to take.

€1.5m fine. That'll teach them.

And what's the deal with the €100m fine if they do it again? They were scheduled to make €300m per year ffs, yet another slap on the wrist.

At LEAST get rid of their stupid coefficient ffs.
That 300 million a year would have been dwarfed by the TV rights.
Wouldn't have been surprised if 100 million a game had been achievable.

That'll be the reason why the clubs will still be planning for it in some capacity.

If they can just skip it and replace that revenue selling super league friendlies then they will.
