Champions League revamp

UEFA have lost their appeal against the ESL3 - Barca, RM and Juve.
The Spanish Court has asked the ECJ to rule on whether UEFA have the right to stop clubs from forming their own (competitor) competition.
If the ECJ rule against UEFA, the whole ESL thing could well re-surface.
Unlikely that any English club tries it again for a while.

Really hope it does. Would love to see those clubs leave the league

I think this is still gonna happen in some way, even if they had made it so its a competition that you qualify for, either through domestic league or winning a restructured and rebranded champions league or europa league. I think that would have removed the opposition to it from the big footballing nations and it would have gone through.

6 premier league teams
3 Spanish teams
3 Italian teams
2 French teams
2 German teams
1 Portuguese team
1 Dutch team
1 champions league winner
1 europa league winner

And watch the PL TV money dwindle, no one around the World will watch that PL, if those clubs leave then so do SKY and BT and those massive TV contracts domestic and international PL tv contracts who'll all be bidding for ESL tv rights.

Then PL football will be on ITV and BBC with championship tv revenues.

And? I don't care what people around the world want to watch. I want the English leagues I fell in love with back. And getting rid of the money is the first step.

Honestly, what you've written there isn't a downside. Let the rest of the world have their equivalent to Rugby League. With stupid names like the Supadoopa Fantastic League, and over the top sponsorship, and rules that protect the top teams because the spectacle come first.

I'll take the Rugby Union equivalent. Where the Football comes first. Because right now, I hate football in it's current guise. I refuse to pay the premiums to watch it, and when the world cup and euros finally disappear behind a paywall, I won't be watching them either.

I also know I'm not in the minority with these views. So yes, bring on the Super League. Let the so called 'big six' go, and leave the rest of us to get on with it.

I reckon the ESL will happen in one form or another in the pretty near future.
The shambles that was the announcement of a few months ago, lessons will have been learned by the super clubs and I'm of the opinion that they will have regrouped and will be discussing new strategies.
I'm in agreement with everything you say. In general, people want to see both competitive and entertaining games and I truly believe we'll get that from a reformed PL. There is a desire to watch the game that will still be there even losing five or six current teams.
It will be like in 1992 when football was invented.

100% mate was sickening seeing people kissing Man City and Chelseas bums when they decided to pull out of the ESL plans.

Sooner they all do one the better - would say UEFA have made the mistake with FFP by keeping the top clubs in power. If they made it a free for all and more clubs had power and money then the top sides have less power and less influence.

Yes. Football will survive without them. I just hope the remaining clubs are strong enough to to kick them out for good next time.

hey need us more than we need them.

Both UEFA and the FA have failed to act in my opinion. That's why I mention Rugby. I feel a split may end up being the way forward with this

Something will happen mate the status quo wont remain as it is.

UEFA/PL have the ability to loosen the strength the top sides have by getting rid of FFP and allowing other clubs to be subject to investment and strengthen the two competitions with multiple alternative clubs to the ESL clubs should they leave otherwise they can keep doing what they have done - keep squashing the rest of us whilst feeding the monsters in an effort of appeasement in which the end result will be them walking away bloated leaving nothing at the table for the rest of us.

Reading a bit more of the latest news about this, it appears that they have said ESL v.2 will have relegation from the league as opposed to a permanent place. That's a major departure from the first proposal.
