At this point, City would have to collapse. 2nd and 3rd require a little help from United and Leicester.

4th is well within our grasp. The RS are reeling, and while Mourinho doesn't have vintage Chelsea or Inter pieces at his disposal, he finds far too many ways to draw given what he's got.

The Daveys and Villains would do well to nick a Europa spot. Chelsea and Arsenal would have to absolutely catch fire to threaten top 4.

Our Burnley result is looking better and better lol.

Newcastle and Leeds are our only truly bad results.

I'm not sure that the Leeds result is even that bad. The Newcastle result stings.

If we can get a draw tonight + beat newcastle and leeds we'll be sat on 39pts after 20 games.

We'd all take that.

This. 4 points from Leicester is a return not many will match. If we beat Newcastle it’s 36 points from 19 games which has us on track for a plus 70 points season something we’ve achieved once in our prem history.

Talk of the title is fanciful as City look to be moving into top gear now. If Liverpool don’t win tonight though they are in for a scrap for the top 4, as are Leicester, as are Spurs, and we’re right in that mix. United could even drop into it if they have a stutter after losing to Sheffield United. They’ve all got European exertions to come to.

One good thing is that Southampton and Villa both seem to have run into a few problems of late plus the threat of Wolves and Leeds never materialised this season. We seem to be firmly in the top 7 group. We just need to avoid the sort of run of games we had after the derby (1 point from 12). Bad results are ok if you bounce back straight away (like we did at Wolves after West Ham). Even a bit of patchy form now keeps us up there. We just need to avoid a full relegation form blow out.

Ive always taken the title of this thread as 'Champions League'.

Looking back at past few seasons, it looks like 20 wins gets at least 5th. Thats the minimum target ive set the team.

Weve played 18 and achieved 10 wins. 20 games now to pick up 10+ more...

I think that the next games against:

Newcastle
Leeds
United
Fulham
Liverpool

-- that takes us to end of Feb (Possibly Villa and City dropped in also).

I think if we can win 3 of those games then were sat on 13 wins with 15 games to get another 7 wins.

After seeing the gulf in class last night I’d fully expect us to finish behind City, Leicester, Liverpool, Spurs and Man U who have beaten us twice already quite easily. Top 6 is best we can hope for IMO, anything better is a bonus.

We’ve only lost to one out of them.

Spurs who we've beaten, Leicester who we've beaten, Spurs who we drew against.

Pretty mad comment that.

4/5 times we win that game last night after going 1 up. That what Carlo does- play the percentages. We're good defensively.

I think 6th is a realistic aim. I reckon we will get Europa League but on a points total close to 70. Thatll be a very good in Carlo's first full season, especially on the back of last season.

I think 4th is very difficult with Leicester being 6 points ahead of us and our games in hand being against Aston Villa and Man City.

Sorry if my opinion differs from yours and makes me a gloom merchant lol

We’ve also lost to Leeds, West Ham, Newcastle and Southampton so not sure who we lost to matters that much, I’m looking at the overall picture.

it’s based on the performances I’ve seen in the pitch, not a game of fantasy football in my head.
Edit: it’s also based on the fact that unless we are at full strength we still have players like Davies and Gomes in key areas who just aren’t up to it.

6th/7th has to be the realistic aim looking at the table:

2 points behind WHU but with 2 games in hand on them

3 points clear of Chelsea with 2 games in hand

3 points clear of Arsenal with 2 games in hand

4 points clear of Villa with 2 games in hand

4 points clear of Southampton with 1 game in hand

WHU is the big worry who just seem to keep winning at the moment.

Arsenal another sneaking over our shoulders who seem to have been able to start getting results.

If we are to keep going strong we simply have to beat both Newcastle & Leeds anything less than 6 points isn't good enough.

Yes we got results against some of them, but that’s the PL this season, everyone is beating everyone as the Man U game last night showed.

but, squad and quality wise we are behind those teams and I think that’s pretty undeniable, so not mad at all.

Think it's important to distinguish between the first team and our squad. James, Digne, Allan, DCL ( Richarlison's gone a bit iffy) are all as good as anyone in the Leicester team on my reckoning. There's not a "gulf" in class.

Our hopes of winning the league have gone but top 4 and FA Cup glory still beckons. Our only hope of winning the league would be doing the double over City and hoping they get caught up by too many games but I still think it will be too much.

Newcastle
Fulham
Southampton
Burnley
Palace

Our next 5 home games unless they slip the city game in. Everyone will talk aba the away days coming up as being season defining but if we’re gonna we anywhere near top 4 there has to be a min of 13 points from the above, maybe 15. Not to say we can afford to lose the away games, we have to take points off our rivals but we have to make a Goodison a place terrible sides like above (Southampton aside to be fair) dread coming

A great opportunity to pick up a few wins there.
