he had a good game leading up until the last 5 mins, but then he crumbled to be fair. the linesman was at fault for the torres dive, he surely should have seen that about 5 yards in front of him. you can see why he gave the free-kick for the goal because there was contact, it's what players do to con them.

he should have been wise enough to know 1) ramires is a well known diver and 2) he was clearly going down before the contact, same with the cahill one in the first half.

it's just typical of the standard of the refereeing in this league, none of them really know about football, they know the rules and therefore see contact and intemperate that as a foul. the FA just won't train them properly and it keeps your core teams at the top - becaus they always crumble to their cheating.

Yep, it's exactly how teams "win" penalties. Refs should go on courses to see how players:

Walk in the keeper
Walk or run into the goalies diving hand..
Fall over at the slightest excuse
etc etc

There surely has to be a difference between deliberately stopping an opponent and, with your feet planted firmly on the ground getting in someone's way.

You're overstating how bad we were under Moyes. We didn't play badly last visit to stamford bridge, either.

This is just about how good this team is, regardless of manager. What martinez has really improved in us is the ruthlessness vs the cannon fodder rather than our performances away at places like chelsea. The latter will come next season, I think.
There's a difference to not playing badly and being competitive and taking control of a game though. How many times did we do the latter under Moyes? He had us going for the jugular of City, I'd concede that. But generally speaking Martinez has shown in one season more adventure and confidence away at these top team's grounds than Moyes mustered in a decade.
