Range preview: Tesco Christmas 2018

Showcasing a rustic ‘Cotswold at Christmas’ theme, Tesco has added a host of new products to its Christmas range for 2018 tapping into all manner of foodie trends, from low-alcohol booze to gluten-free Christmas cakes and vegan alternatives to the traditional turkey centrepiece. Here’s our pick of some of the most innovative products to hit shelves this festive season.

Three Kings Sandwich
RSP: £3.50
A trio of festive rolls fit for a king – or at least a luxurious lunchbox. Each roll comes with a different filling, for starters posh prawns in a boozy cocktail sauce, then British butter-basted turkey with sweetcure bacon and finally a chocolate roll filled with smooth cream cheese and a port and cherry sauce.
133809_Tesco-free-from-chocolate-yule-log-cake-kit-web.jpg

Free-from Chocolate Yule Log Cake Kit
RSP: £3.50
The retailer has gone all out catering for those with dietary restrictions in this year’s range, offering a variety of cakes, cake kits and cupcakes to cater for those unable to eat dairy or gluten. This Yule Log cake kit is free of milk, wheat and gluten and can be made in two different ways, as a traditional style yule log or a tree stump centrepiece, says the retailer.
133810_Tesco-Low-Alcohol-Sparkling-White-Low-Alcohol-Sparkling-rose-web.jpg

Tesco Low-Alcohol Sparking White
RSP: £3.75
For those designated drivers dreading the Christmas party Tesco has created its own low-alcohol (0.5%) sparking white for 2018 made with Spanish Sauvignon grapes. This “zesty” option has “ripe citrus flavours” and – once poured into a Champagne flute – holds its own against the real thing.

Salted Caramel and Cocoa Tortilla Curls
RSP: tbc
Adding something sweet to the crisp selection this Christmas these tortilla curls are made with cocoa nibs and topped with a salted caramel dusting.
133812_Tesco-steamed-British-turkey-parcels-web.jpg

Steamed British Turkey Parcels
RSP: £6
To cater for smaller Christmas gatherings, Tesco has created these individual hand-tied parcels of British turkey breast, basted with turkey stock for extra succulence and marinated in parsley, sage and orange zest. Hand-prepared by experts and packed ready to steam in the tray.
133813_Tesco-Vegan-Stuffed-Butternut-Squash-web.jpg

Vegan Stuffed Butternut Squash
RSP: £10
For the growing number of people following a meat-free diet, this sweet butternut squash stuffed with a tangy beetroot and apple filling makes a great centrepiece. Finished with a crunchy and colourful pumpkin and sunflower seed topping.
133814_Tesco-Finest-Franciacorta-web.jpg

Tesco Finest Franciacorta
RSP: £15
A first for UK supermarkets, says Tesco, this Italian fizz is produced in exactly the same way as champagne, but comes without an extortionate price tag. It’s a “lemony fresh fizz that will be welcomed at every Christmas feast”, says Tesco.

Aldi's 2018 Christmas range has been announced
There are a selection of delicious treats to choose from

You might still be waiting for the last sunshine of the year or preparing your little ones to go back to school so Christmas might seem like a life time away.
But Aldi are helping you get organised for the festive season with plenty of time to spare.
The budget supermarket has released the first information about its Christmas range.

Caviar, giant prosecco and a chocolate carousel are all including in the range that adds a little bit of luxury to Christmas.
Aldi has not cut any corners when it comes to their grub, making us wish Christmas was sooner,.

Final details of the range are yet to be confirmed but prices are set to be released towards the end of September and the items will then be available from November onwords.

Here's a selection of items that have been released:

The Aldi Christmas range 2018
Foot-long pig in blanket
The budget-friendly retailer will be bringing out a foot-long pig in blanket, which sounds like heaven. Surely they are the best thing about the dinner itself?
You can also look forward to Black Forest Mince Pies and a Salted Caramel Christmas Pudding, perfect for desert.

Methuselah Prosecco

How better to celebrate Christmas than giant booze?
A methuselah is the equivalent of a bottle of bubbly each day of the week and one left over for a special occasion.
If you don't fancy trying to pour from this huge bottle regular sized prosecco will also be on sale over the festive period.

Wine Calendar

A December treat that lasts the whole month. (Image: Aldi.)
The Aldi wine calender will feature 24 mini bottles of wine to taste.
For the indecisive wine lover who can never make up their mind which tipple to choose.
Aldi has said: "Enjoy an amazing bottle of wine every day of Christmas with the ultimate wine advent calendar.
"Pair them with your meals, include them in your recipes, or just enjoy them with friends and family over the festive season."

The chocolate carousel

The chocolate carousel could be hit with the kids. (Image: Aldi.)
It seems as if it has been pulled out of Roald Dahl's chocolate factory, looking intricate and delicious.
"Enter into a chocolate lover’s dream with this truly exquisite Chocolate Carousel," say Aldi.
It's deliciously chocolatey, festive, almost too pretty to eat and will certainly be a hit with the kids.

Caviar

Now, if you've always fancied caviar, or are a fan already, then this year is the year to shop at Aldi.
It can add a touch of luxury and step up the Christmas dinner for the in-laws, without breaking the bank.
Aldi said on their website: "Ethically and sustainably sourced from a family-run sturgeon farm and endorsed by tops chefs and used in some of the country’s best restaurants."

Chateaubriand

Specially selected Chateaubriand. (Image: Aldi.)
If you desire a tender piece of beef as the centrepiece of your dinner table, then Aldi could be the best place for you this festive season.
The beef fillet, 21-day matured and hand-trimmed for tenderness, will provide you with every sense of ecstatic flavour.

I'm going different this year, hoping to serve whole slow roasted Bison with a mushroom, and maybe a mong bean soufflė, squid ink frittata topped with goat and tempura tofu bollix for the vegan terrorists. And all the trimmings.
