City Break

Not sure what the flights are like these days but Dubrovnik is nice ;) I went there a while back and hired a car to go and see Mostar in Bosnia. Proper scary border guards on route:oops:

2 were metro related. One for not having a ticket (we were stupid, didn't know where to buy them and got on a tram without one) the second because we got the tickets but didn't know we had to validate them. The third time was actually quite an embarrassing event that happened recently. I will tell the story on here some time I am sure
Yeah it's a very different system to here, both because there aren't any gates as such and because they're time based so you have to validate them when you get on to "start" your time period. I've found the police can be pretty harsh to tourists who get it wrong.

I don't know if you live in a city yourself, but if you do, think of the touristy bits and think about how often you as a native go there. I suspect the answer is never or very rarely. If you get a guided tour you'll almost always go on the "theme park" aspects of a city. It's much better to just wander. For instance, in Prague if you go around Old Town you'll only see tourists, but if you cross the river and head towards, say, Holesovice and Stromovka you'll only see locals. Which do you think is the "real" Prague?
Oh yeah you're right I wouldn't wanna be one of them tits on an open top red bus taking photos of everything. I'd much rather just free roam, but Auschwitz tour would interest me (even though I think it's guided). I say that as Krakow is looking the most likely destination

Depends what you want, of course, but not too much further from Krakow are the Tatra mountains, which are really incredibly pretty, but with none of the cachet of the Alps (the mountains in Slovenia are similarly stunning and "unspoilt" by westerners)

It is guided. I don’t think there is an option if a recall correctly. Plus the ticket you buy is for the two sites which requires a bus transfer between the two. When I went I did not go to the second site because I was running out of time and it was summer and absolutely roasting

Central Europe doesn't have a reputation for heat but it can be incredibly hot. Prague the other week was around 35 and they had the truck going round spraying people with water.

Went to Vilnius a few years ago.

Noticed loads of graffiti on a few walls/buildings that said 'G-Spot'.

Asked a few locals what it was all about...

Turns out it was a big marketing campaign by the tourism board who coined the term 'The G-Spot of Europe'.

No one knows where the hell it is but it's amazing when you get there ?
I took the missus to Vilnius a few years back. We both had time off and it was just a case of what's the cheapest flight to somewhere interesting. Absolutely brilliant place - we went in Jan/Feb so it was covered in snow and freezing but absolutely beautiful. Spent 3 nights there in a really nice old town apartment for next to nothing. Wasn't too keen on the cold beetroot soup but that aside the food was very good and the beer is fantastic.

We then got a £15 flight to Stockholm and spent 3 nights there. Another great city....albeit a little more expensive than Vilnius but nothing like as pricey as it's made out to be unless you're doing nothing but drinking. We got one of those tourist travel/museum/attraction pass things and absolutely hammered it going here, there and everywhere.

So Stockholm, Vilnius and I'd heartily recommend Berlin & Malaga.

Bloody amazing that!

Another vote for Krakow. Loved the city and the people and was fairly cheap at the time. If you've got a decent budget at your disposal then look at the Betmanowska Hotel. Right on the square, double jacuzzi room overlooking it , magnificent.
Looks lovely there! Would like to stay there but just got back from a holiday a week ago so on a slightly tighter budget now

I've been there in early December time before. Its great when its not flooding!
It's a brilliant winter city for me.
Chuffin amazing architecture, Empty lanes and a very surreal place to be when dark !
Doesn't smell either and no tourists.

Marrakesh, Caiscais, Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm, Dijon, all pretty good if you get out and about them. UK wise I particularly like Falmouth and Foye.
Have look at Travel Man, 48 hours in ……. On Channel 4 streaming app (All4?) plenty of whistle stop tours of city’s, defo be somewhere that interests you.
