Pretty good! Bet coppers get more grief, so do I, but I'm on no where near that!

Oh sure, £85k is a lot of money, but considering the industry they are in, it seems meagre in comparism. Like the PFA chairman is on something like £400k ffs. He is certainly the highest paid union chief.

Edit. Jeez, Gordon Taylor is paid just short of £1,000,000 a year. That is astonishing.

Wow, the £ in footy is ridiculous.

They are asked when / where they will be arriving,station/airport, taken to best hotels ( all pre booked for them) same after the match, bet they don't put their hands in their pocket, sounds like a good number.

youd think the more you paid refs, the higher standard youd get wouldn't ya? or is that too simplistic?

Along those lines and the more you pay someone that has such an intimate ability to change the outcome of a multi billion quid sport, the less likely they would be to have a momentary lapse of judgement.
85k is alot but maybe not enough of an end reward to entice those who have to start at the bottom

i'm not necessarily saying refs should def be paid more, haven't really thought about it. but it is interesting how that the answer is always technology instead of 'hang on, the quality of referees in this country isn't good enough, we need to raise the standards.' i suppose from the Premier League point of view, the more controversy the better.

of course, no referee is ever going to have a perfect game. it's just i feel its a neglected part of the game and needs more investment

But think of the abuse you recieve for being a Premier League referee. Its insane. 85k cant cover that.

and im not saying that Clattenburg is in the clear, he's clearly a POS kind of person. But there ARE decent ones like Phil Dowd, and really, would you think you would be/should be making more as a mason than a person who influences the results of a league that reaps in BILLIONS?

works out 2237 per match then so based on 38 games. id imagine the fa would then pay them for cup games they do. plus id imagine they get generous pension, expenses, travel allowance, nice chunk of summer off, etc.
Id gladly take any abuse for that package.
even bellends like Marc C technically make more per game as they miss a few through been dropped

Refs need to be paid competitively.

Them being financially independent means they're more resistant to corruption. As bribes hold less attraction.

However Clattenburg is just dodgy.

There is more than one game and involving one team against several others where he has taken dubious decisions.
