A380 wing static fatigue testing

When I watched that five part series on the making of the 777 (posted earlier in the thread) I loved how they tested the wing strength by bending it upward with force until it finally snapped. It's amazing how much stress those wings can take and I doubt seriously that any commercial airliner would ever be subjected to those types of forces in normal every day. They can take a lot.

My guess is that they can't see behind them. No rearview mirrors.

Good guess. They still need a flagger, but they can use reverse thrust or reverse prop to push back (props are better at turning than pushing back, and usually have a better turn radius). But if you're pushing back with thrusters and hit the brakes, you'll go nose up and probably strike the tail then damage the nose gear when you return down. Balance is important, and these birds aren't really made to drive backwards (they're actually terrible at driving for the most part). Here's an unbalanced load, if this gives you the sense of it:

Why are they needed in these regions? Terrain makes for short take off distances? Density altitude shouldn't be an issue.

Dunno why really. All I know is they are generally on ski's and heavily loaded.

Upon further research (read, two minutes on google) for when landing on unprepared snow (ie, a random bit of arctic/antarctic snow) and needing to take off again.

Forgot about the skis bit. And the heavy loads obviously. I'm sure they pack it up to MTOW and every other limit possible.
