Computer games.

We have a Series X and a XBOne so we can play together, but have just now bought a Switch as well so we can game much more casually. Not had a handheld device since a PSP which I loved all those year ago
My electric bill reflects the sheer amount of computers/consoles/handhelds/phones/tablets in my house........

Mods. I've noticed much more are available on pc. Sony limits what can be done.
I would say that if you’re interested in the mods then nothing is going to scratch that itch until you try it. I was in a similar situation recently and bought a PC and I’m loving PC gaming. It’s more of a hassle and a bigger initial cost but it’s another world really.

It’s just a shame that gaming laptops aren’t the best investments. I know very little about PC building but from what I gather laptops are much harder to upgrade than desktops.

Its what I opted for in the end. After an intensive bit if research it was a hard choice, but I went for the Asus F15 i7 with nvidia 3060 graphics. Its lightning!

I know its not future proof, but I'm not the kind of gamer that buys the latest. So far the only ones that I'm interested in are fallout 3 and 4 and PES. None of these are stretching this laptop.

I want the portability so I can take the games away in my camper van. What swung the Asus to favour is its thunderbolt USB c port - I can charge it through this off a 12v car charger without relying on an inefficient inverter for mains.

Having a bit of a gamer phase again. Am enjoying VR but barely anyone on here is into that, I don't think. Outside of that finally did a proper play-through of Bioshock Infinite. Good, sometimes very good, but never really great. The oft-praised story is a little shallow, to be honest. Gameplay was decent, tho' not hugely moreish. Highlight was the gorgeous visuals of outdoors Columbia, plenty artful lighting effects in indoor scenes about too. You could make a thousand stunning screenshots.

Tried Bioshock 1 again but find myself getting bored with the combat. Might try one of the russians: Stalker or Metro.

Been returning to the most fun, challenging & dramatic racing game ever in Rollcage: available as a safe free download direct from the original coder:

Codemonkey (not to be confused with the Qanon fella) has made a spiritual follow-up called GRIP. But it still doesn't feel right to me. Rollcage 1 has brilliant physics, believably-unpredictable Ai-opponents, imaginative tracks and an excellent balance of racing/destruction. It's bloody unforgiving on the harder difficulties, but all the more rewarding. GRIP just feels too easy, ironically feels like it lacks grip.

Tried Pro Evo 2021 (or whatever weird name it's got...E-Update or something)...ugh...it's just a chore to play, the players feel heavy, clumsy & laboured, and Konami still insists on that obnoxious flashing logo with compulsory-replays for every little scene.

Pro Evo 4 & 5 were the peak, I reckon. Fifa 18 is surprisingly decent. The other ones not so much. About time a third party offered some competition to these two tired franchises.

I think you've made the right choice, simply because you'd forever be wondering 'what if?', if you hadn't tried.

I hated the story of Bioshock: Infinite (the fist two being some of my favourites). The whole multiple universe/timelines thing was so poorly done it honestly felt offensive. Shame because I loved the whole Objectivist critique of Bioshock 1.

They had lots of development issues I believe, and had to cut many things which is why the game ended up being a far cry from what the initial trailers suggested.

I didn't hate it but it was a bit of a tropey copout, and having the
antagonist be you from another timeline
was just stupid. The build-up was very good, at least. B-stories like the racism angle was lazily done.

Maybe I'll try Bioshock 1 a bit more, not that far into it yet (the Dental rooms, shortly after picking up the Half-Life-style gravity-gun vigor). You reckon the combat gets better?

A new Bioshock but in VR could potentially be something amazing.

Unfortunately it doesn't! It's one of those games where the art style (love that art deco), story, world and themes have to be what pull you through and its up to people to decide whether that's enough. Of course they add more weapons and plasmids as you progress but overall the gameplay doesn't change too much.

It's a running theme for me where my favourite games are ones with terrible gameplay but everything else makes me power on through. (Bioshock, Mass Effect 1, Fallout series) .

You've convinced me not to soldier on then lol

I enjoyed ME1's gameplay...the Mako, the wobbly sniper...it all made sense to me. ME2 felt a bit too streamlined, ME3 got the balance right. What a trilogy that was!

From Fallout I never played the classics, enjoyed 3 but found New Vegas & 4 dull: their worlds & inhabitants didn't feel immersive or believable whereas the bleak Fallout 3 somehow did.

But due to owning an Oculus Rift S I couldn't resist getting Fallout 4 (and Skyrim) on VR. And despite those games not being initially made for VR (like the astounding Half-Life Alyx is) they are still worthwhile experiences. It's really something else to actually be in that world: the perspective changes, and combat is far more intense, naturally! Makes it more enjoyable too.

lol not my intention! Its fair enough though if you aren't that invested, but I would say the story more than makes up for any shortcomings.

Finally completed Divinity: Original Sin 2 earlier this week. Great game and the soundtrack is equally amazing. Don't ever feel like leaving the Lady Vengeance (the ship) because of this song

Now I'm waiting for the release of New World. Never been this excited for an MMO before. But first - new season in Destiny 2 next week!
