Computer games.

Anyone here play or have played Rust, I've played that game for so many hours now it's kind of ruined others games.
I played Legacy, then after they moved to the new engine.

Its a completely different game these days. Back in the day it was all about befriending new players, and then locking them up as a slave.

Now its just more of a generic crafting FPS inhabited with the standard 12 year old's spewing hateful racist jibberish.

DayZ has had a similar effect on me. It’s like a more realistic version of Rust in many ways depending on what kind of servers you like to play.

I tried the console beta of Rust but it wasn’t for me.

Maybe give it another go, and find a good server, the game has so much to it there is nothing generic about it all.

No.

My eldest son has taken over my account and i have watched him play (he is very good at FPS's, and really good at Rust). I really have zero desire to play games like that anymore.

Fair enough, but your description of rust in its current state is not at all accurate.

Hmmm, gonna disagree with you on my perception of the game, given that my son is playing it atm, and just a few minutes watching.....yep, pretty much as described.
You couldn't be more wrong, the game has so much more to it now it's unfair to describe it as an FPS.
Maybe your son only plays battle servers? Or is playing on console ?

The building mechanics on rust are something else, with so much to consider, things like your location, if your too close to big groups, too far from decent monuments for loot, near by natural resources, nearby reclycer, is the terrain what you need for you build etc.

Then there is the build decision on how you build your base, do you make it strong to defend online raids, or make it a nightmare you get raided offline, or try to do both.

Do you make multiple bases in an area to give yourself flanking options?

That's just the base side, you also have the physiology of rust which can be fascinating, do you trust your neighbours, he hostile or male alliance ?
Do you grub of clans or become useful to them to get protection ?

Then there is how you want to play, do you want just PvP, PVE, or RP (RP is hilarious in official servers were people are aggressive and toixc) or do you want to make a farm to grow resources that can make you rich.

The game is pretty wide in how you play and the variety it has.
I havnt even scratched the surface on how deep the game is and there is nothing else like it.

I was initially a bit surprised Sony bought Bungie , thinking more about it they will probably want to branch out a bit into some multiplayer games to grow PS Plus/PS Now.

I’m hoping someone resurrects Konami, all those IPs like Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill and Pro Evo, just waiting to be done right.

Sigh .

You really don't get it do you. I know everything you have described there. I have played the game on and off since 2014.

The core concepts of the game are exactly the same as they have always been. I am not arguing that in the slightest. I bitterly dislike there players who inhabit it, rendering it into what is basically a crafting fps.

My son is quite an accomplished player, who only plays on PC. Without knowing you, I would probably say my kid has been playing rust not only longer than you, but in total time as well. I think the first time he played it was in 2018, and he has put thousands of hours across a variety of servers (he is a teenager after all)
