Computer games.

That sounds good - I was trying to play Hearts of Iron 4 as Germany and I couldn't even figure out how to to attack Poland! Even the tutorials go so fast I can't keep up with what they are clicking and why.

Something with some troops to march around and simple battles without having too much else to do.

PC or Mac though, not console AFAIK

Great!

Ok I don't have any upgrades or anything - will a game from 2010 work on a 2022 computer?

A 2010 game should be very easy for a modern computer to run. Even the recommended specs on the steam page are less than integrated graphics on modern machines.

Company of Heroes 1 or 2 is very good.

Anyone got any recommendations for pre built pcs (Intel CPU + 3080 or better) which are good value ? Budget is about £2200

Used to always build the pcs myself but can't be arsed anymore so happy to buy one pre built

looking at this one at the mo

Is the price hike from a 10gb 3080 to a 12gb 3080 worth it ? Im going to assume not

Power supply doesn't seem powerful enough. Don't Nvidia recommend at least 750w for a 3080?

I bought mine from Scan in June last year and it’s been good. However, it came with a 550W PSU when Nvidia recommends minimum of 650W for the GPU it came with (3070). I upgraded that to an 850W and the system runs more smoothly now.

Similar thing with this one here, as @trueblue84 said 650W is about 100W too low for a 3080.

I did a tonne of research on GPUs and the 12GB 3080 is nowhere near worth the extra money. The standard 3080 is the best value high end GPU by some distance, and in comparison most of their other cards are poor value. For example, the 3080ti is 10% better than the 3080 but it’s £1050 instead of £650.

Also for that price I would also be wanting a Z series motherboard preferably.

You would want minimum 32gb of RAM in my opinion and probably 64gb so you wouldn't have to look here for upgrades for a few years.

Also has no Hard drive ? Just a 1TB SSD. Whilst the 1TB SSD is a decent size to store your games, you would want a HDD for other stuff as that SSD will get super full quickly.

You could build a very decent gaming rig for that budget - have you thought about using a PC builder website (i recommend PC Specialist). For the power that's going to go with that machine too, i'd be wanting a better cooler than the stock but you can always upgrade that yourself.

get the 12GB version is you like to play games maxed out (especially at 1440 or 4k). The way games VRAM requirements are these days, the 3070/3070ti/3080 are already being hampered by their VRAM and its only going to get worse as time goes on, and cards like the RX 67/68/6900XT start to get the leg up on the nvidia counterparts.

Absolutely 100% true, except with brand new games with silly VRAM requirements. The difference between 10 and 12 GB is sometimes work 30+fps at 4k max settings. And the 12GB will give far more consistent frame times making for a much smoother experience.

Is it worth the extra money (if you take it in isolation) - if you don't play at 4k and visuals maxed out, no. But if you do, the extra money will be the difference between silky smooth gameplay and an inconsistent stuttery mess.
