Computer games.

I'm on a fresh play through as well, it's so easy to drift into auto pilot and end up getting battered. In fact, gonna have a whirl now before today at the test...

I’m trying to play bits of lots of games now until I start one that hooks me for a while and stick with that. This will do for an hour and I’ll go back to Baba is You for a bit (great puzzle game) then I’m going to let YouTube help me get passed a bit I was stuck on ages ago in Oxenfree. Also randomly started one of the Fire Emblem games on GBA

(This will all go out the window if the wife gets me the new Zelda for the birthday coming up soon)

Hellblade was that experience for me. Some parts of that in my flat alone in the middle of the night were horrifically tense
Got that on VR, on the shortlist to play, might even try it tonight.

Scariest game I've played is Amnesia: The Dark Descent
agreed...unrivalled atmosphere & build-up!

my lady physically threw the mouse&keyboard in the air at the slightest hint of a nearby growl lol

I tried to play one of the others, can’t remember the name, but it just wasn’t the same. Nothing more scary than a game you can’t fight back on.
Soma from the same studio is excellent but deffo not as scary. The monsters are more annoying than anything, i turned off their threat so they're just mindless bots roaming the wilderness, which much better suits the existential-crisis story.

Rare good holiday take there *about Hellblade, idk what was going on with keyboard throwing*

what do you mean rare? lol

yeah, i'm staying awake all night in prep for a run of nightshifts. i just now setup me WLAN for a wireless Steam-VR sesh. Gonna have a look at what to put on.

The keyboard-throwing is what my better-half did in panic when an Amnesia monster was nearby. That game's scariness is legendary, it kickstarted the now-massive trend of Youtube-Playthroughs, made Pewdiepie & the rest into the most popular youtubers.

Is VR decent or does it make you feel motion sick? I’ve been tempted by a while, but I’ve only tried the original Oculus and that was awful for motion sickness

i'm all-in on VR. wrote again about it just these last coupla pages. use Quest 2 standalone and connected to PC.

for me it's been a profound revelation but i understand why for others it's not happening.

@john jako recently got a Quest 2, i think he also had nausea issues.

I've just put Zelda down after a decent stint of low key gaming it - it's very well-made but wasn't worth the purchase of a switch for me, in hindsight. I still have to do the final boss so will get back on it at some point. I think anyone who likes Zelda BotW will love TotK, but its staying power is not for everyone.

[I think how you travel around the map in these sort of games is absolutely critical and they got it a bit wrong with TotK. Very hard to get right in fairness, as they're obv aiming to be accessible, but if you make it too easy you lose a lot of immersion].

Back on Dark Souls 3 SL1 run :) Sister Friede is handing out some harsh lessons.

Hopefully find out at the weekend!

Finished Oxenfree on Sunday. Was a decent story and interesting enough game, but don't get why I see it referenced so often.
