Computer games.

Starfield is a Bethesda game, confirmed, is basically all the reviews.

Jank here and there, "needs a few patches", "the mods will fix it".

People have to STOP buying this crap.
I think the game is objectively good. But as you said it’s like Bethesda is pinning its hopes on modders making the game for them. If they can so much as put more effort into the writing that goes a long way. I think it will be a great game in five years.

If I had to describe Bethesda in one way, they are fanfic writers making games. They found a formula and have followed it to the letter which would be fine if they regularly released games.

Played a few hours of Starfield last night.

Definitely dumbed down the RPG elements even by Fallout 4 standards.
Feels like they’ve taken a lot of ideas from Cyberpunk 2077 as well.
Space combat feels very limited and the space travel in general is just fast travelling from skybox to skybox.

Still though, the on foot combat seems pretty solid and I reckon it’ll be a half decent action adventure game as it progresses.
Certainly not anywhere near the levels of any of the Elder Scrolls games or Fallout: NV mind.

Did the same, and this morning, and have just refunded it. On my setup (which is admittedly four years old now) it is unplayable except on the very lowest settings, and what I did manage to see was not that impressive - the ground combat was poor, and the space combat was not even as good as NMS, never mind Elite.

Maybe it is coming to the game from BG3, but it just seemed really bad.

To be fair, it’s running well for me (I did upgrade my GPU in Feb though) and for the most part looks great.

But yeah, some people are going to be very disappointed with the space flight, or lack of it.
Your ship is essentially a flying base that you can fast travel with.
Even in space you are locked to skyboxes orbiting planets. There’s no linear travel even to orbit the planet you are around or to travel within system, it’s all essentially plotting routes from your map and watching a cinematic while you fast travel there.

So yeah, anyone looking for a proper ‘explore space in your spaceship’ experience, NMS, Star Citizen and of course Elite: Dangerous are the way to go.

Flawed but decent game for anyone who enjoyed older Bethesda game, but obviously very disappointing for a lot of people who expected space exploration game.

I doubt this gonna be big system seller for Xbox that Microsoft probably hoped for.

That two of those games exist and they didn’t go ahead and do something like that in this baffles me. What they’ve served up here is basically what KOTOR did.
There is game called Spacebourne 2 on Steam released few months ago where you can seamlessly land and take off from the planet and travel between planets and asteroids. It was made by tiny Turkish studio.

So i definitely wonder how massive studio backed by one of the largest corporations in the world failed to do so. Probably limitations of that old engine they continue to use.

Yeah, they are going to take a fair bit of flack over this.
Also as I mentioned above how they have seriously dumbed down the RPG elements as well. They’re no equivalent to the Special stats that Fallout has, it’s all skill tree based. Considering what BG3 just did in showing there is a massive market for games with deep RPG systems, I imagine they’ll take flack for that as well.

That said, there does seem to be a decent game underneath all of this, I have had fun in the few hours I’ve played, but it does feel like they have dropped the ball with some of the most important aspects that people were hoping for.

Probably gonna be tons of mods in future, who knows what people gonna add to game, maybe even proper space part (hopefully).

Skyrim is so much more enjoyable with mods than in its vanilla version, especially with combat mods.
But yeah, deeper RPG systems are so much more harder to implement for modders, so probably best to treat this game as action adventure type.

It's just the same as usual.

People build something up to be a thing that it never claimed to be, then bash it because it doesn't reach their bizarre delusional expectations.

It's a Bethesda game.

It's basically No Man's Skyrim.

I'm cool with that. I like Bethesda games 🤷‍♂️

I’m more annoyed that they sat on Skyrim for so long and this is the best they can come up with. Is the game acceptable for what it is? Of course. I’m not going to tell people it’s garbage because I don’t even believe that. I think it’s very solid. Elden Ring is just an open world dark souls and nobody cares and creams themselves (me included). It’s a great formula

I do think they are waiting for modders to add crap to the procedurally generated areas and add AI NPC’s (which to me is kinda lazy but whatever). They know modders will make it incredible and just laid the framework.

will have to check that out, ever since Mount and Blade came out have had a high opinion of independent Turkish games

Comparing Spacebourne 2 and Starfield is just silly. It's not even a close comparison, why would you do that?

I'm honestly baffled by the opinion of people lately, they just seem very very weird. It's very odd

Personally think the RPG elements are stronger than Fallout 4, happy they didn't go with a voice protagonist and that they incorporated actual dialogue trees. I recommended people focus on the main quest.

Space combat was never a major selling point for me, if I want a space combat sim I will go play elite dangerous.
